Better than Bayer. Cheaper that your co-pay for lab work for most insurance. Service as promised. And it means you can bring your results to your doctor rather than coming back for a second visit. Be careful about covering the circles with blood drops. Follow instructions exactly, which means some people with poor blood flow, shaky hands or poor motor controls might have problems. Still, after I messed up the first test, they sent me a free replacement kit -- WITHOUT my asking. Much more than I expected.
Inexpensive and easier than going to a doctor all the time and listening to their whole speech about how to take care of yourself.... well, I was able to just get it done and know my results and know what I need to do differently without the whole speech from a money greedy doctor! ..... Only need to use this test every six months or whatever you feel like. I was nervous about poking my finger at first.... but, it really was no different than poking your finger daily to test with your meter after eating and such.
Diabetics need to have an A1C test at least quarterly. Due to the high cost of hospital lab tests, most do not. This test is easily affordable, and according to my doctor, reliable. I was pleased with the overall service and felt completely safe about my privacy. Only downside was Walmart store in my area doesn't carry it.
The A1c test kit works as expected, but getting results from the lab is SLOW...count on 2 weeks from the day you complete the sample. Also, the e-mail communication from the lab is non-existent and/or incorrect (I've experienced both). Bottom line, does it work (at a reasonable price)? Yes. Just be patient, it'll take awhile.
I didn't use the 2 lancet devices that came with the product. What I did was use my Accu-Chek Softclix and just cranked it up a couple more clicks. I usually lance at the edge of my finger...but in this case I lanced at the very end of my finger so that I could milk the blood into the circles. About 3 drops in each circle filled them to the edges. A different poke for each circle. I sent the test off on a Friday...got an e-mail my test result was ready Tuesday night. I wasn't that thrilled with my test result...but that was no fault of the test kit or those who compiled the test results. The results are displayed in .pdf format...which you can download and save. I'll probably purchase another A1c test kit in another 3 months.
A seriously huge drop of blood is needed. About 10 times as much as the biggest drop you use for a Glucose meter.
I first bought the A1c test from Walmart on Connecticut Ave. in Norwalk CT. It was past the expiry date and the lab could not test the sample. A waste of money and, more importantly, time. I nevertheless tried the product again, purchasing it at another Walmart location and making sure it had not passed the sell-by date. This time it worked fine and I got results within five work days.
I sent my test in on Sunday 06/01, and requested my results by e-mail. I received an e-mail today 06/07 letting me know my results were ready. I followed the link I was given to get my results, and received an error message telling me that my results were not available at this time. There was a phone number to call for problems. I called the number and received a message telling me that calls were only accepted Mon thru Fri. Not very professional. Not waht you would expect when dealing with a medical test.
The processing company will not process A1C test kits when the expiration date has EXPIRED! Should never have been shipped to me. Low standards and quality control by Walmart! Bush league!
I usually do not review my purchases. The reason I gave it a poor review is because it has been two week and I have not received my results back. Whether it was a mix up on their end or something I did when I made out the form I do not know. I called customer service and they were going to direct my call to the lab but at the time the lab wasn't open and I haven't found time to try again.
