Although it has not been warm enough yet to really put the ubit to the test, I have turned it on, and I know it is going to meet my expectations..I was leery at first , as I did not recognize the manufacturer, but I am sure Walmart checked them out..

Great Price for a Great Product

I bought this product last summer because my complex does not allow window air conditioners. Now I see it at a much better price. I have been very happy with the quality of this unit. It cools my bedroom quickly and it is very easy to install. Even better, I can remove the exhaust hose on cool nights easily so I get fresh air and save money on my electric bill.

Product works very well. Cools quickly and runs very quietly. However, I should have paid more attention to dimensions and weight. Not very portable from upstairs to downstairs or vice versa. Unit is huge, keep that in mind! I think it is a great value for the price, though.

Works great. Cooled a large room quickly. Only used it a few times, but so far so good. I'm happy with my purchase. The Site-to-store pick-up was easy and saved me $30.

Overall works as described. Was a little larger than I expected. It is also on the noisy side. Does cool a room fairly quickly. Although, my main complaint is the amount of times I have to drain the water. After only a few hours of use, the unit shuts down and I have to drain the resevoir. This may be because of our climate and location (so cal and only a block from the beach). It is also in a very inconvenient location; being only an inch off the floor in the back of the unit makes it extremely difficult to find a containter to hold the draining water.

We purchased this a/c for our finished family room above our garage. It does have central air, but since it receives so much direct sunlight, we were having a problem keeping the room cool. I didn't want a window unit for appearance reasons. I researched portable units and went with this one because of the price and the dry mode feature. The unit is extremely heavy. It is on wheels, but it takes two strong people to move it up or down stairs. It has 3 modes: cool, dry, and fan. The dry was a selling point for me because it was supposed to eliminate frequent water tank fillings. However, the manual tells you not to use the window exhaust kit when on dry mode. The HUGE problem is when you don't exhaust through the window kit, then the exhaust blows hot air into your room. So, it somewhat defeats the purpose of trying to cool a room, because you have cool air coming out the front but hot air coming out the back. Therefore, we determined it's best to use it on the cool mode. The HUGE problem there is you have to empty the water tank. We are averaging 3 times a day, and that is not with it running all the time. I have to say that it is a hassle. In addition, the plug is at the very bottom of the unit. It's almost impossible to find something shallow enough to fit under the plug to collect the water. The window kit was extremely easy to use and I like the fact that it was not visible to the eye from the outside (side window.) The product does cool the 400 sq. ft room very well, and it is not too loud. It has turned our family room which use to be unbearably hot in the summer into a very pleasant space. We didn't want a window unit, and we didn't want to spend over $350. I hope this helps someone in purchasing an a/c.

The good news: It provided a nice cool airflow in my living room and dehumidified the room very well, although it was only able to bring the actual temperature of the room down by 4-5 degrees below the outside temperature. In my area, this makes all the difference. Basically, expect the unit to cool only the area that it is pointed at directly. The bad news: Although it says "self-evaporating" on the box, it most certainly is not. It shut off about every 2-3 hours because the reservoir was full, and emptying it was extremely difficult, because the spout is about 1" from the floor. I ended up buying a vinyl plumbing hose so that it could drain out my patio door (but most people are probably not using it next to a patio door, so this method is not possible.) Another option is to keep the unit elevated so that water can be easily drained into a normal size bucket. The even worse news: The compressor broke within 3 months of buying this unit, and I am now about to return it to my Walmart store. Luckily it happened within the 90-day return window, because Royal Sovereign's closest warranty service center is more than 100 miles away from me. I'm sure this could happen with any air conditioner, but you might want to figure out where a warranty service center is located before buying any large appliance like this.

A Somewhat Disappointing Product

I received my Royal Sovereign ARP-1003E Portable Air Conditioner and assembled it as specified in the users manual. I found when I ran it for about 1 hour the evaporation tank filled and stopped the unit. At first I thought there was some residual water in the evaporation pan, however, the next night the unit stopped working just after one hour's cooling and the night was not very humid. Now I'll have to drill through an outside wall to run a condensate drain pipe in order to use the Royal Sovereign ARP-1003E Portable Air Conditioner. This is a very disappointing result since this air conditioner is advertised as a self-evaporating unit.

1. Inside water tank fills up in 2 hours, not 2 days. 2. Unit will not start up immediately after water is drained. 3. Royal Sovereign has ignored by voice mails and emails. 4. This 10000 BTU cools no better than the 5000 BTU unit it replaced. 5. The fan broke after 2 months of use.
