Ok, I'll give you this much, yes you need to lay out all the parts before you begin to build, but like anything else that has to be assembled, it takes time. So, what I did was, followed all the instructions step by step and it went pretty good for me. It took me 2 hours 45 mins. to put together, So all in all we are very pleased.
While this item is beautiful it is also inexpensive. Easliy put together took about three hours to assemble. Love the way it came packaged and would make a wonderful addition to any room in your home. One thing it will take two people to carry while packaged but once put together is rather light weight and sturdy.
I was very impressed with this desk. It "looks" more expensive than it is and heavy, too. It is a very nice piece of furniture and it sits in my living room. No reason to hide this piece of furniture. I will buy more of this line by Sauder. Only drawback is that I leave the computer access door open so that my computer gets air circulation & doesn't overheat.
The desk was very heavy, so be prepared to have two people at least helping u carry it. At the moment of assembly, out of excitement, I drilled too deep and the tips of the screws ( at attaching the molding) came out on the top of the desk.I ended up unscrewing the screws and having holes in my desk... Be aware to not drill too much, this would be my advice, as you might end up like me , with holes in the desk....I was also wondering maybe the screws were too long?, but it all ended up well. The desk is ultimately a great product for this price and very solid.
This desk was exactly what I was looking for. I purchased it on rollback from $160 to $70 (I checked back a few days later and it was $130!) and had it shipped Sit-to-Store for free! Defiantly worth the money! There is lots of storage and lots of work space. There are only a couple of cons: the keyboard tray is a little awkward to type on but that may just be that I'm not used to it yet, it was VERY heavy, it's 150lbs but my husband managed to get it up our steep front stairs by himself, and it took FOREVER to put together, it took 2 days in-between taking care of my two kids, school and waiting for my husband to flip it over (you assemble it upside down). Oh and I also didn't use the pads you hammer into the legs, I used cut-to-fit felt sticky pads. Overall it looks great and I'm very happy with this purchase!
Very happy with this product. Once it is put together you will be pleased with the look and the sturdiness of it. The only downside, as others have said, is the time it takes to put together. Be sure to lay all the parts out carefully BEFORE you attempt to build. Takes quite some time but the finished product is worth it.
It definitely takes 2 people to carry this. Be very careful when loading and unloading because one of the corners on the piece for the top was bent and cracked when I unloaded it from the box. I situated it so that was a back corner and can hopefully put something on top off it to hide it. Purchase wood glue because there are nail like pieces that stick in one part of wood then go into the joining wood piece. The locking part stays tight but the parts that just stick in the wood come out. I put the glue in the holes to help it stay together. The directions were a bit vague- I have put every piece of furniture together in my home- and this was by far the longest project ever. But even with the extra things I had to do and time it still is most likely the least costly option available.
Its a real nice product. I love it and it fits the product description. Assembly was real pain for me. It took me more than 4hrs to assemble it. Think about almost 40-50 peices of wood, almost 40-50 kinds of hardware. Probably you will end up assembling hundreds of peices and your hands will burn. Thats me!! You may find it easy. Just wanted to share my experience.
It took me at least 4 hours to put the thing together, and the directions require more thought than maybe necessary, but the desk is great and it looks good too..
The desk is very professional looking once completed. All the hardware was not included in the kit, which kept us from completing the project while waiting for the hardware to be mailed to us. It took my husband 2 days to put it together. Wasn't sure who would win out, him or the desk. But, once completed, it looks great. Very heavy. Took 2 people to lift. All in all, good product.
