I was skeptical about self cleaning rollers. I have lots of furry and fluffy pets and not to mention I shed just about as much as they do. I have tried so many vacuums. I have to say Shark has been my favorite of them so far so I had a glimmer of hope it may work. I was so surprised it worked! Not to mention I was even more surprised how dirty my floors were even though they had just been vacuumed. There is 3 features of cleaning on it: hard surfaces, low carpet, high carpet. The suction each feature provides is strong while the rollers deep clean your surfaces. It's amazing just how much dirt, dust and fur/hair it will pull up. If you do get on a surface or vacuum over something that hinders the rollers, it will stop spinning them and give you a warning. Meanwhile the debris all gets sucked up into a large bagless tank, which has two openings, top and bottom to be able to get it all out. All the while the rollers spin against a comb that gets 99% of the hair and fur. Unfortunately I apparently vacuumed over a spill on the carpet which made the rollers wet which did cause it to retain more hair. However the hair still was easy to remove and wasn't wrapped around the rollers. The head and rollers all come apart very easily to be cleaned. The Shark Apex Duo Clean all comes apart like some Transformer. You can take the main body off the roller head to get into spaces that you don't need rollers for. The wand can come apart in 2 places, short or long. Every piece where it comes apart has a bright LED light on it so you can see what your doing. There is so much versatility with this that you can use it to vacuum most anything, anywhere. This will pretty much be the last vacuum you would ever need, especially if you have pets. From the moment I opened it and saw the head with three rollers, and soft sponge-like materials, I was pretty sure it was different. It is fairly easy to assemble, although I had to look at the picture on the box several times to figure some of it out. One thing that is very nice, is that you can easily detach the canister from the rollers/head unit and use it to do a stairway or anything else that a canister vacuum would clean. Once the head unit is detached, it is fairly lightweight and makes a great fan cleaner/ staircase cleaner. Also, it has a very long, sturdy cord. The design is very clever and nicely done. It is clear that a lot of engineering has gone into the design of this SHARK vacuum. It has LED lights so you can see in the corners or up under the sofa or anywhere you are trying to clean. The only con: Very Heavy, much heavier than my purple Shark & and no nitch to keep cord up close to vacuum while in use.
I am really impressed with this vacuum so far. It was easy to put together out of the box and only came in a few major pieces. It's made with quality parts and even some appear to be metal. The multiple rollers (see picture) are also very nice quality. The sage color is darker in person and is really classy. It works great and has amazing suction and is fairly quiet. The handle is large and sturdy and it had great maneuverability. Really impressed with this vacuum overall.
This is probably the best vacuum I've ever used. My father also bought this last year and recommended it to me, told me it was like the Ferrari of vacuums!! VERY easy to assemble, and sucks up EVERYTHING!!! Well worth the spend
The Shark APEX DuoClean with Zero-M vacuum has all the features that really matter. Smooth suction, low noise, washable filters and no bags to buy! It weighs about 16 pounds but that weight allows the vacuum to pivot on the base and easily turn on your carpet. The lift-away feature is very handy moving around furnishings and on stairs since the canister comes off the base. One push of a button and the canister pops off and will open to drop out the debris in a can or bag. It has a nice low hum sound which is preferable to the high pitched whine most vacuums have but isn't as quiet as I would like. The filters can easily be washed each month. The self-cleaning brush is a great feature making my carpet nice & fluffy. I like how you can see what is inside the canister to know when to empty it. The hose is sturdy but moves coils easily like a slinky. I like the extended attachment to get under furniture easily when using the lift-away mode. I recommend taking your time setting it up since what looks like a place to wind the hose is for the power cord which is nice & long. DuoClean brush roll system deep-cleans carpets and delivers a polished look on hard floors which I haven't seen before.
I have every liftaway version since inception, and I've seen great features come and some go too. Shark clearly listens to their customers and they try to integrate as many of our requirements as possible. There are always tradeoffs of course. This Apex is by far the largest and heaviest of the liftaways. The power head has been widened and dust bin enlarged, so it is now somewhat heavy as a result- 16lbs. What I love about this model: The power switch and mini headlight have returned to the handle, WOO HOO! Edge cleaning appears to be on both sides of the power head now, however my model seems to be missing the edge grooming brushes. It still powers the main brushroll head even when attached directly to the handle, which is simply awesome to vac stairs!!!! It's easy to open the top of the power head with no tools to clean the soft roll. The brush roll does not remove on this model, however, the Zero-M tech that automatically removes hair from the roller really works (YES!!!), so it's rare to need to cut anything from it anymore, YAY! All 3 filters are washable and easy to access. The wider power head is a good compromise width at 12in vs. the 10in of previous models- still fits between dining chair side legs and covers more open area. Suction is great on typical carpets and hard floors alike and it pivots and converts to liftaway wonderfully. What I don't like: Still no setting to shut off rollers and keep highest suction for long shag rugs. The high/area rug setting lacks the suction needed to penetrate thick shags and still spins, catching long yarn, so not what is needed for long shags and delicate flokatis. I would still prefer a manual suction control over pre-set modes, so I could manage varied area rug needs myself. My dust bin has a poorly fitted latch when connecting to the pod. The hose has shorter stretch than the previous version (DuoClean Powered Lift-Away Speed, NV800). Shark uprights still always tumble when using the hose. No dust brush came with this Apex AX1000 model. (Each model number has diff. accessories with it.) The upholstery tool just has velour. They should have provided the pet multi-tool instead, which is a 2-in-1 brush or velour. It's fantastic. The only other accessory with this model is the basic 12in edge cleaner. Not thrilled with the heavier weight, but appreciate the increased capacities. I'm a huge fan of Shark. You can't go wrong with any of their vacs. If you have been waiting for the new features this model offers- auto-hair removal from brushroll, larger head width and storage, edge cleaning both sides, and 16lb weight is not a problem for you, then I highly recommend the Apex 0-M. I just wish they had used the previous model's hose as this model took 2 steps back with this hose. If the new enhancements are not important to you, then look at previous models. They all have mostly pros with just a few cons that are all different.
This is the Strongest vacuum cleaner of ever had. If there's an ounce of dirt this thing is going to find it and suck it up nothing stops at any small item you normally run over and you hear a rattling in the bristles this just takes it all the way into the container. The commercials you see with this thing suction is so strong it can hold up two racks of pool balls is the complete truth I've had to catch myself accidentally tap and the curtains and almost pulling that thing off the wall. This vacuum cleaner is amazing I love the fact how easily the canister can detach With the extending attachments you can reach the highest areas in your home. The Canister is extremely lightweight which is good when you have to carry it somewhere. I must say my only drawback for me is that when I'm vacuuming the floor with the carpet or hardwood is kind a hard to steer. It feels like there's one wheel on the back and the vacuum but if you don't have a strong grip and a strong wrist turn to get in the direction you want me to vacuum can be a little difficult. How about this I just work through it so I can get my area vacuumed until the next week or so. I would recommend this to anyone for purchase because it does an awesome job cleaning just as it's advertised to do. But if you have any dexterity issues right carpal tunnel or just arthritis I would recommend you use a wrist brace while vacuuming.
It was very easy to follow the instruction in putting this vacuum cleaner together. I love the power in this vacuum cleaner. It pulls along the carpet and picks up great. It comes with only two additional tools but has several you can order. The canister can be removed easily for vacuuming stairs but is a little bit heavy. It's built to remove hair from the roller. The reason for the average is I only used it once before the indicator light came on showing a clog in the vacuum. I searched everywhere and there was no clog. The rollers automatically stopped and would not start again.
Things I love: -Lift away feature -self cleaning brush head -multiple quick release points for hose function -easy empty bin -low profile head to get under cabinets/furniture Things I don't love: -vacuum tips over when you use hose -hose is short -bin doesn't hold much, needs to be emptied often -accessories don't stay in their spots and get in way of power cord Overall, it cleans well and has some good features, but the overall design left me wanting better
I was very excited to try this new Shark Apex. I just bought a Shark Rotator Speed last year and I wondered how they would compare. I had the new vac together in under five minutes. Once I did, I realized how huge this thing is. That is one big dust cup. Enough to clean your whole house and only have to empty it once. The power button is on the handle of this model unlike my Rotator where it's located on the top of the canister. This is so much more convenient. The Apex has lights on the power head and handle too. Lights on a vacuum was something I never thought I needed, but once I tried them, I never will go back. Really lets you see what you're picking up (or not). I tested the Apex doing my living room, bedroom and bathroom which is mostly all low carpet with some area rugs. I found it bulky and hard to maneuver. It doesn't get as close to walls as I'd like and refused to pick up crumbs out of the carpet near the baseboard no matter how many times I went over it. There's a lot of suction, but it just couldn't grab them no matter which direction I went. I used the lift away method to get under furniture in the living room and quickly got fed up. The canister is too heavy to carry and the hose doesn't extend hardly at all so you're constantly fighting it. Without the canister on top of it, the power head moved easier, but it also seemed to be missing the weight it needed to get deeper down into the carpet. I used the hand vac part on the sofa and the suction was great with the tool provided, but again I was constantly having to tug on the hose because there's not enough give. Just too aggravating. This is not the right vacuum for me.
