I like
Lots to learn but it will do more than u realize it can. Also has more options on types of products to make then the cricut. It don't get enough credit for real lol
I previously bought the silhouette cameo 4 and was not a fan. But this was recommended to me by other artists as a great sticker maker. It can be a tad temperamental but thats usually after ive been using it for a few hours. So i t does tend to need a break every once and a while.
I purchased the Portrait 3 because of its size. I have had the Cameo for years and love the machine, but it is cumbersome to to take to retreats. The Portrait is the perfect size.
After comparing several models, I ordered this one when I found a great sale price on it. It came packaged well, with instructions and warranty information placed right on top. After unboxing, it is easy to set up if you follow all of the steps on the website that can be found on the instruction sheet. As someone new to the vinyl cutting craft world, the learning curve to use the software was steep, but after an hour or so, I figured it out and was able to create my first few simple projects fairly quickly. I wish there were links to video tutorials for basic usage that goes beyond the initial set up instructions, but YouTube has a ton of helpful videos. Over all, my first impression is that this machine is going to get a TON of use to create all kinds of decals and iron-on designs for me and my family!
I'm using it instead of paying for a die cutter, just starting out and have small quantities for pre-production/order fulfillment. The material I'm using is Avery shipping labels only. This doesn't come with any instructions, no quickstart guide, not even a QR code to scan! The 300 MB software download is large, and it's a limited version too. You'll probably want to get Inkscpe or other serious graphics software to get your graphics to a usable state. Before you buy the cutter, go ahead and download the software and see how well it works for you. It's different than so many programs I'd used before, lot's of new concepts, especially registration marks and edge tracing. If you can't manage the content creation, no need to go further - you'll have a lot of extra learning to do once you start cutting; attaching the printer output to the sticky backing, adjusting the cutting speed, depth and force. Some of the Youtube videos are helpful.
the only issue i noticed was that when i opened the box everything was just there with no packaging for the papers or cables. other than that on the box it says that an 8" mat was included and it's missing. i'd love to get a mat for my maxhine thatbi payed for.
Purchased this machine with intent to produce files created in Adobe Illustrator but their basic software you get doesn't even let you open an svg file. Hello, they've been around since the Dawn of time.
Started out ok making kiss cut stickers but then refused to read the registration marks no matter what I did after reading every tutorial. I bought a used Cameo 3 at a garage sale that works 100% perfect compared to this thing.
I never got a change to use this as the silhouette app did not work in my computer. I called Apple, (there is no way to contact silhouette company, and Apple is the computer I have), and the person there tried to help me to get this program to work with my computer. my computer is updated to the latest software. in order to get silhouette design studio to work, i would have to uninstall my updates which are needed to keep my computer safe from hackers and etc, in order for the program to run correctly. I'm all set. if the program for silhouette can not work with the computer program unless I remove my updates and such is not worth it. Also, apparently it has a hard time with Windows updates also. After u purchased this and was researching how to use this and get set up, i find out some stores are no longer selling this brand of a cutter and other stores are carrying almost very little of this brand. That was also another warning. I did try anyway, but still nope, I'm not putting the security of my computer at risk for a cutting machine. Red flag number 2 was when i got it and tried to use the number provided and the message on the other end is they have changed how they are to be contacted, either but chat or email and their hours of business are 830-5 Monday-Friday only. just so you know, there was no chat or email either for contact. I will stick with my cricut until I i find a different cutting system that doesn't require me to waste paper, tape and so much more or have an actual contact info where you reach someone. Not everyone can live or craft but an 830-5 Monday through Friday schedule. and when needing help who wants to wait till the company feels they are able to help, (oh wait, there is no actual way to contact this company).
