Used it to cool a 12' X 12' bedroom. Does a fine job. You just have to remember to empty the water pan every day.
We thought we were in heaven when we turned it on! It cools the room quickly and keeps it that way. The hardest part of assembling and installing this air conditioner was extracting it from the careful packaging it was shipped in! As promised, it was easy to install. We had a brief hitch with the window piece, which was too short for our window, but too long with the patio door extention. However, cutting a piece of styrofoam from the packing material to fill the gap fixed this problem. Assembly and use instructions are simple and maintenance is a snap. The conditioner shuts down and beeps when the water reservior is full and you just slide it out the side, empty, and replace. The filter is just as easy to clean. Make sure the place you want to put this air conditioner has a three prong plug before you start though. I definately recommend this product.
We had a problem immediately upon installation in that this self evaporating unit was not dissipating the moisture at all. Instead someone had to dump the water bucket daily. This was a big problem because its purpose was to cool an 8x8 server room that no one thinks about unless something's wrong. Sooo... I called the manufacturer, got instant support and had it explained to me that we must minimize humidity (not heat) in that room in order to minimize the unit's moisture output. The room had one drop ceiling grille and two ventilation grilles in the door. We replaced the ceiling grille with regular tile, covered both door grilles and that darn air conditioner has been working like a champ ever since! As much as I like the unit, I also like being able to reach Sunpentown quicky for some intelligent advice. Definitely buy this one.
This is great for a trailer. I live in a trailer and the central air is not big enough to cool the trailer on really hot days. With this unit you can set the timer to go on a few hours before you are due home and you come home to a comfortable tempature. The timer is great so that your not running it when you don't need to. It also has a tempature setting so it will only cool when the tempature goes over the setting. I really like that it is portable, so that if I move all i have to do is unhook the exaust vent and go on my way. I highley recomend it
Air conditioner was bought for use in bedroom. Just wish the drip pan was bigger, unit runs 7-9 hour before you have to empty.
My condo doesn't have central air and it gets really hot in my bedroom. It is about 20 x 25 and I usually have a fan on in the summer. I saw this product and was excited because of the way you vent the a/c to the window. My window slides from left to right and so I purchased it. It weighs alot so I had my son help me get it upstairs. It took about 10 minutes to hook it up to the window (including the time to take it out of the box). It is very easy to do. All I had to do was put the window kit in my window and had to program the remote and turn it on, and in about 10 minutes my room was perfect. It hasn't really gotten warm yet, but one weekend it was about 88 so I used it. It is low profile and doesn't take up alot of space. I didn't care about the cost, because I know how hot it is gonna get (up to 108) and I didn't mind paying 398.00. I ran it for about 3 hours and looked in the water tank and there was no water in there. I would recommend this to anyone who doesn't have an a/c. Buy it, you will be so happy!
The unit is ideal for my office which runs very hot from too many computers. It cools the room very well. The unit makes a low grinding noise when the compressor is running. When the building AC is off, the condensate pan fills up and shuts off the compressor. It doesn't soak the carpet, but it won't run all weekend either. The drain hose connection would work if I had a place to drain it. The 8 foot long flexible vent duct is too short to reach a 9 foot high ceiling. It took some rigging to make it work. The original unit did not work at all. Sunpentown replaced it; but it took 2 weeks to make the exchange.
My use for this a/c is in an R.V. (8x21) Unless you are able to position the a/c within inches of the exit for the exaust and use the drain hose , the heat and water it produces is more than the unit can over-come. It produces very cold air that is overcome by the exaust heat and the unit shutting down when the water tray fills. I was able to utilize its capacity by placing the unit within inches of the exaust out location and draping towels over the exaust hose to confine the heat produced, and using the drain hose to keep the unit from shutting off. All I can say about this unit is, it is good if you have no option to a regular window unit. A window unit of 9000 btu is app. $100. verses this one with such difficulty at triple the cost.
for the price i am very disappointed in this product it does not cool unless you are setting on top of it. right now i am setting here with a wet towel over me to be cool. yes i am very disappointed. i am really thinking about sending it back
set it up, plugged it in, turned it on no cold air. talking with sunpentown they thunk it's the sensor, my luck. they are shipping out an exchange. will be happy to review this one if it works...
