Disappointing

OK, so I spent 20 minutes in the humidifier aisle scrutinizing the print on the boxes and purchased this one BECAUSE it says on the box it has a dishwasher safe tray. I thought that would cut down on the weekly sanitizing time spent. I mistakenly thought that meant that the base was dishwasher safe, not the teeny, tiny medicine tray. On to the medicine tray, I can see it in the top of the "grill" of the humidifier, but I have no idea how to open the grill or the top to get to it. The instructions just say to put medicine in the tray, nothing else. I have 3 college degrees and am quite handy and still couldn't figure out how to get out the tray. Seriously?! I haven't actually run the humidifier yet, because after noting those two issues (the reasons I purchased this one over another), I got online to see how to get to the blasted tray and saw many other poor reviews, so mine is going back to the store.

It leaks!

Got one because I suffer from dry throat and sinuses. This was one of the few available at the store at the time I needed it. Well to say the least, very disappointed. I rely on things to work as they should. We have a varnished wooden floor. The 2nd time I refilled it, it leaked and caused damage to the floor. Reading the instructions, I thought I didn't have it level. (the instructions state keeping it level is a must!) Well it leaked again...this time causing a bigger mess and more damage. Upon inspection I notice the little spring bottom thing isn't quite centered. It is now back in its box and ready to go back to the store, complete with its water-soaked, moldy instruction sheet. (which by the way looks semi-poorly translated and tries its best to cover all of Sunbeam's products on a single sheet.) Not to mention, the carry on handle is a joke. You can't carry this thing around, whether it's in the unit or not. The handle is only useful if the unit is completely dry and not being used. Bottom line: I regret not looking at the website before buying this spur of the moment. Please don't take your chances getting this. The damage to the floor is not worth it.

Pathetic (sunbeam)

The fan blows so low, the air hardly moves. It has very low moisture output. Moisture also collects on the output area. Used it for 1/2 hour. I will be buying a cool mist model.

Well, it works...

...just not as expected. I wondered for the first two days whether I had purchased a defective one or not. It required a great deal of tweaking for me to "get" how it works. The first problem is that the instructions provided are generic instructions for all Sunbeam humidifiers, whether they are cool or warm mist, this model or some other one. The instructions are literally written like, "If you have this kind of humidier this applies, but if you have this other kind, do this. Your humidifier might have these kinds of controls, or it might have these other ones, or this third option..." They also don't use model numbers or anything in the instructions, so it's not like you can just skip all that to look for what applies to your model number. How confusing. Still, it's just a humidifer, not rocket science, how bad could it be? This is the first warm mist humidifer I've ever owned that does not produce a visible mist at all times, even though the directions say that's the difference between their warm and cool mist models. In reality, it only produces visible mist if both controls are set to high, and then only sometimes. The humidistat is not marked in any clear way, so it's not as if you can set it to a specific humidity level, just set it for more or less humidity. Even when the humidistat is set to the highest setting, but the on/off controls are set to 1 (low), there is no way to tell if it's actually doing anything unless you put your hand near the top where the steam would come out. While the packaging claimed a 24-36 hour run time, the only way I could see this being possible was if both the humidistat and the controls were set to the lowest setting. I have never run both at low for any length of time, because the humidity produced by that setting was unnoticable. If you have serious dry air problems in your home in the winter time, just forget it. Even with the controls on low, and the humidistat set somewhat higher, the water will only last about 12 hours. I have to refill this thing twice a day at least, no matter how I set it. This in itself is a problem, because the design makes this a real pain to fill. The resevoir is tall, but half of it is comprised of a hollow "ez carry handle" that fits along the top curve of the humidifier. You can see this in the picture - that top loop is actually part of the resevoir, even though it doesn't look like it. Because of this, the resevoir is both small (less than half of it is NOT hollow handle area), and too tall to fill easily even in my kitchen sink. Because the resevoir is curved, it's also difficult to fill in the bathtub because you can't position the opening directly under the faucet. Unless you have a very high faucet or very deep sink, you'll have trouble. Also, something about this design makes it impossible to fill up all the way, there's always about an inch or so of air. I really don't know what they were thinking when they designed the resevoir this way - it's absolutely ridiculous. Every other humidifier I've owned has incorporated a handle in the design without it taking up so much room and being so clunky. Last but not least, just skip this product entirely if you plan on using the feature that allows you to dispense vapor medicine. The hollow for the medicine is on the top of the humidifier, which is angled, and the indentation is very shallow, so what happens when you try to fill it with vaporizor liquid is that it inevitably spills over side of the hollow and down the humidifier. I have tried everything, and I literally see no way you could fill it without a high probability of having to wipe up a spill unless you used an eyedropper or a syringe. If you want a humidifer that can be used with vapor medicine, buy a Vick's, the design actually makes sense and is easy to use. $40 makes this humidifer fairly cheap for any humidifer that's SUPPOSED to last 24 hours, but as they say, you get what you pay for. It's only a good value if you don't have much of a dry air problem, aren't looking for something that soothes respiratory problems, and have a deep sink with high faucet somewhere conveniently close.

Worked for One Season

There were two things that were disappointing about this humidifier. One was a misunderstanding about the water volume. Because this was a little more expensive and looked like a larger unit...and came in a larger box than some other units and it said "24 hour" in the description, I assumed it had a decent water capacity. But it doesn't! It holds very little water and runs out very quickly. It might run for 24 hours on the absolute lowest setting, which is kind of useless. So the "24 hour" description was misleading. The reason I am writing this bad review is because, while the unit did work last winter, when I started using it this season it worked a few days, then quit. No apparent reason. It's clean. I have no idea why, but it just flat out stopped working. I'm very disappointed.
