Fellowes Shredmate 4-Sheet CrossCut Desktop Paper Shredder

After many years my mother broke the shredder. I glued it together and used it another 10 plus years...so, I bought myself one. The only change I made is, I kept using the metal basket that came with my original shredder instead of the plastic one that comes with the new one.

So far it is a great shredder, although when purchasing I did not think about the size and that I would not be able to shred full size papers without folding them. Overall, it meets my needs and then some as I am able to also shred credit cards without having to snip them up.

This shredder was bought to replace a different shredder that had gone bad on me when I had moved. It's a good shredder and cuts the paper exactly how I want it to. However, the opening could be slightly bigger because I tend to save up a full shoebox of paper to be shredded and it takes a little more time to fold the paper to fit.

Have bought my second Fellowes small cross cut shredder and disappointed in its durability. My first one, exactly the same type of model, lasted for several years when the plastic tab broke, rendering the shredder inoperable. I looked and found the same type of Fellowes shredder and have had it for less than a year when the plastic tab broke. I really like this shredder because it is small, compact, cross cuts and takes care of my personal needs. The plastic tab is a safety measure but it lasted less than a year this time so I wonder if cheaper material is being used or if there's a problem in the manufacturing? I will now have to buy another shredder but I hesitate on buying another Fellowes if this is going to be a problem. Unfortunately I never put in a warranty because the price is so affordable and I really thought it would last several years. I am careful when using it and always clean it out after every use so it did not fail due to any misuse.

This is a very good product. It is also economical and moveable. I am moving and I am glad this product is small and portable. One can use it in an office or home. Daily, I receive mail that I don't need to keep, yet with identity theft being a modern problem, I feel uncomfortable placing the items in the garbage. I also have personal letters, etc. that I want to throw out, as I downsize, due to becoming elderly. Again, I don't necessarily want some of that personal info. in other people's hands so a handy shredder works just fine for me. It also shreds credit cards, that I don't want exposed. I don't have a lot of shredding to do, so sheet capacity is more than adequate. I like the one year guarantee. I like the quietness, so I don't disturb neighbors. Good all around. Thank you.
