Second season of use, started on third try with gas left in tank from last season. Like the other reviewers have mentioned, the factory plug is bad. Mine quit after about the fifth or sixth use. Replaced with an RJ19LM Champion from my 15-year old dead mower and it started on first pull and has worked since. I have abused this mower on 3/4 acre. Pushes through tall and sometimes wet weeds/grass and keeps on going. The side discharge plastic hood is cheap and falls off easily if it hits something, but is not that big of a deal. This seemed to be the best deal for the price when I bought it last season and still appears to be the best deal. I wouldn't be hesitant based on the negative reviews, as it was likely the plug.
Great right out of the box. Personally I had a little problem putting it together for a minute. But once I looked closely at the pictures and related it to the machine, it went together fine. So look carefully at the picture! I think mine may have been a return because it didn't arrive in the same manner as the picture describes, which threw me off. Also, I can't seem to get the grass catcher to seal well at the top and it throws some grass up threw the tiny gap. But I think it may be something I've missed when putting it together. I'll have a friend check it out next time they're over. Runs like a champ.
After getting everything put together and set up, went to pull the cord to start, and the cord stuck. Nothing I could do would get the pull cord to work properly, and ended up taking it back for a refund. Bought this as a replacement mower, and with Murray's good history, I was certain that it would be a good purchase. My luck, I get the lemon.
thanks to these reviews and the 3 reviewers who reported a bad spark plug i was able to get mine going again. mower quit after the 5th use and wouldn't start. i also had an old, dirty J19LM plug laying around and put that in there and boom! (viola!). i'd give 4 stars but my mower, which was the "display" mower does not have an air filter, which i dicovered while trying to trouble-shoot the no-start. running a mower without an air filter just means trouble in the future. allowing reviews and experiences to be written and posted are very helpful.
Have been using mower for a few months, mowing yard and field grass. The engine handles tall field grass with ease, though discharge chute does clog on ocassion. The bagger handles clippings well, and is easy to dump, though tall or wet grass will also tend to clog the chute. The multching feature may work well for short grass, though I rarely use it, as my grass is tall or damp, which tends to build up under the deck. After nearly 10 gal of gas, had trouble keeping engine running- Would run for less than an minute, then die. Ends up, the spark plug was fouled. Though not the OEM replacement, a J19LM plug got the mower going quite well. Trying to find the proper replacement plug RJ2YLE -New Champion # (799876) has been difficult. Have not tried a Briggs&Stratton repair shop yet, though neither auto parts stores or Wal-Mart seem to carry this spark plug yet. Hopefully, Wal-Mart will carry proper parts to support this strong mower soon.
