August Smart Lock is the best I've come across. I have three of them, making this one my fourth. The price for this version is the least expensive I've seen.
Almost never auto-unlocks for any of the four people. We have followed the troubleshooting steps and it has not fixed the issue. When it does auto-unlock it is very slow in doing it. We can get out of our vehicle, collect all our things, get to the door, try it, put stuff down, get our phone out, and then it unlocks. It has randomly turned off both auto-unlock and door sense. We never get the notification for being away like we did with the original. It constantly drops off the wireless network even though it is within 10 feet of the closest access point. We do get those notifications.
An easy installation. Clear instructions. Mechanically unreliable. App easily confused and out of sync with lock, incorrectly reporting lock status. I really wanted this to be as simple as advertised. Oh well. First time I've ever bought something from an advertisement. Last time
The lock had the same functionality as its predecessors, but made so much better. It's smaller, smarter and the components are made a smart way finally ( I've had to replace my deadbolt adapters many times with generation 2 and 3). Manually unlocking it is smoother and the built in WiFi is so much better than having the WiFi adapter. Only issue I had is that the lock does not come with new screws. The WiFi lock needs longer screws than the screws the older locks used previously. So receiving the lock, not being able to install it, then having to wait for the new screws to arrive that you bought was quite annoying. But all-in-all I'm very impressed and love the WiFi August lock.
We have used the Gen 3 with the only issue being the gears failed, which when it happened August replaced the lock. We loved it. We purchased the new Gen 4 when it first came out so we wouldn't require the bridge any longer, and have had significant issue since the beginning. We got locked out of our house for an hour as we didn't have our keys and the lock didn't work - friends with a spare key had to come to let us in. After weeks of Support assistance, the lock still didn't function correctly, and August replaced it. However, the new lock experiences the same issues - we cannot rely on it opening the door, via any of the August app, HomeKit, Apple Watch August app, or Siri. It cannot seem to find the lock. It Auto locks, but doesn't Auto Unlock or Unlock when requested. We've tried everything, but find we must use our keys more often than not as the lock cannot be found, by August nor HomeKit/Siri.
