This is one of the few dual hose air conditioners on the market. I have been buying portable air conditioners for 17 years. The dual hose design is hard to come by and is a very important feature. To save money, manufacturers have gone to the single hose design which do not work very well. I will tell you why. To create cold air, an air conditioner needs a compressor. This compressor creates a lot of heat and needs to be cooled down in order for the air conditioner to work well at creating cold air for you through the evaporator cycle. A dual hose air conditioner sucks in air from outside to cool the compressor. This air cools the compressor (it actually cools the condenser if you want to get technical) and then exhausts this hot air out of the exhaust hose. This is highly efficient. A single house air conditioner takes air that it has cooled from your room, cools the condenser and then exhausts this hot air from the condenser out of the single exhaust hose. So the air conditioner is working against itself by taking air that has been cooled in your room to cool the condenser, and then exhausting it. Exhausting cooled air is not very efficient. To make matters worse, single hose air conditioners create negative pressure or a vacuum in your room because air that is exhausted through that single hose has to be replaced. As a result, warm air is being sucked into the room you are trying to cool, from doors and windows that are not fully sealed. So a single hose air conditioner is exhausting cooled air and sucking in warm air. For these reasons, only buy a dual hose air conditioner. I notice that this 14,000 BTU Haier air conditioner does not cool as well as my old 12,000 Haier BTU air conditioner. My old 12,000 BTU air conditioner had a more powerful fan but was also a lot noisier. My new 14,000 BTU Haier is quite a bit quieter. One other issue is that I noticed is the case at the bottom of this 14,000 BTU Haier is not sealed that well. It was apparent that the compressor was sucking in some room air and exhausting it which is a design defect. It was creating some negative pressure and exhausting a bit of cooled air from the room. To fix this I got packing tape and created a seal where the case meets the bottom of the air conditioner. It works much better now. My old Haier had this issue and I fixed it the same way. I notice that the thermostat on this new 14,000 BTU Haier works much better than the thermostat on my 12,000 BTU Haier. The new unit is much better at maintaining a desired temperature. It is also smaller and more compact than my older air conditioners. If you are not willing to buy a dual hose air conditioner, you might as well just buy a fan and save your money.

I got this for my Mom's home which is older and has Anderson Crank open windows. I made a plywood piece to cover the window and painted it white. Placed the plastic part that the hoses connect too over the plywood and scribed out the holes. Cut the round holes, then screwed the plastic part to the plywood, then screwed the plywood to the frame of the window from the outside. Then it was just connect the hoses and I was pleasently surprised at how well this unit was able to cool the house down. The house is about 1200 square feet, and we closed of a couple of rooms, so it is cooling the living room, dining room, kitchen, and master bedroom without a problem here in Ohio on 90 degree days. I recommend it.

I really like this unit, and I chose it so I could move it around where ever I needed it cool. Works great! I also love the colors they look sharp. The unit is also really energy efficient if you ask me. With the 6 inch outlets it hardly takes any time at all to cool my room. Here is my modification I made to my A/C unit.

Overall I am satisfied with this product. It is very easy to install. I bought this for my daughter's college apartment which is in a building that is over 100 years old. Windows are vertical and this unit has double tubing one for incoming air and one for outgoing air. We had no problem getting the exhaust vents into window securely. It cools very good considering the apartment has sun all day and is drafty because of its age. The only down side is that it is loud when it is working. I would recommend this unit to anyone that wants a powerful and portable air conditioning unit.
