i am so over this coffee pot! ever since we bought it, it's leaking. we've done everything to stop the leaking resorting in putting a crawfish pan underneath it to keep the water collected. then the cup button stopped pressing the drip latch, so i rinse the coffee from around it, now it wont brew at all. i am positive Hamilton Beach is a brand ill never buy again.
The one I had before was an excellent coffee maker, it lasted about 8 years (believe me we are heavy coffee drinkers). So 8 years of usage in my house is more like 16 years. But at last the original one had to be replaced because it started to leak where the coffee dispenses. The new one arrived it looked exactly like the previous one, but the quality of the product was not the same, we noticed it started to leak in the same spot as the previous coffee maker, but we gave it a week still the same problem-sadly we returned it.
I really like this coffee maker, and use it at my senior center, as there is no glass pot for my clients to worry about breaking, or burning their hands on, they just put their cup/mug under spout, press the button, and get the coffee they want. My only dislikes are the water tank is under the holding tank for the coffee which makes it a bit harder to remove if there is any coffee left over without spilling it if you are short like myself, the basket for the coffee grounds does like to drip when you remove it, and any grounds that spill over into the coffee holding tank will settle, and burn to the hot plate, so you MUST clean it well after each use with soap, and a dish brush to not have burnt tasting coffee the next time, and lastly if you poor the water too fast the hole for the overfill will make a really big mess, so slow water pouring not going past the 12 cup line is a must. So for those small flaws 4 stars, but I would buy another one again if needed.
Filling a cup from the push bar and not having to deal with a glass carafe (or any carafe) is a real plus. The unit is made very well, is easy to use and keep clean. Used this same machine for a week at a Lake Tahoe timeshare and ordered one immediately upon arriving home.
This will be my 4th Hamilton Beach Brew Station. Unfortunately, it appears that there had been a significant reduction in quality of the product since our last purchase. I love(ed) this product so much that because I was concerned it might be discontinued, I bought a back up about a year ago and put it in storage. Ladt week, the main washer that lifts when one presses a cup against the dispenser bar broke. That brew station was an amazing 7 years old. So, I went out to the laundry room and brought out my back up brew station. I also immediately ordered another back up unit..( We really like this Brew Station). While running a cleaning cycle in the new Brew Station I noted that the urn part did not fit into the main brewer as tightly as the last unit but didn't give it much more thought. However, after the first morning usage, I saw that the drip tray was full and had actually overrun, leaving coffee stains all over my stone countertop. I thought that was really unusual but again, didn't give it a great deal of thought. However, it did make me pay attention after that first morning. Sure enough, when one decants a cup of coffee with the new unit, it leaks down the bach. Coming from around the dispenser bar. I checked after the next cup and it did the same thing. Well, as previously mentioned, I had ordered another Hamilton Beach Brew Station, so when it arrived from Walmart, I opened this one immediately to check it out. Sure enough, this one also does not seat well and after I ran a plain water cycle through it, this one leaks down the back as well. So, I can return the (2nd) backup...I still have the shipping box and unit box, but having thrown out the first box, I think that I won't be able to return that one even though it's less then a week of usage old. I intend to contact Hamilton Beach directly but it's really sad that the quality of this product has deteriorated so significantly in 7 years . Walmart and Hamilton Beach, I could use some help here if someone actually reads this review.
