I bought this humidifier over 2 years ago and havent had any problems. I live in Northern Arkansas and we can have some cold winters in January / February. It handles my 1600 sqft house without any issues. Do have to refill the tanks every other day during the coldest days. Never had any problems with it leaking unless I bumped it hard or tilted it to where water spilled out of the tray in the bottom of the unit. The Wemo app works great on the iphone. The lower water alert is very useful. The filter seems to last just fine for me. I'll buy new filters to start running the unit in December into March. You can find the filters here on Walmart.com by searching for "Holmes HWF80-U" or try using this link: https://www.walmart.com/ip/40696523
I am amazed at the new technology and improvements made on something as simple as a humidifier such as this one. This is sleek, modern, attractive with it's digital humidity & WiFi display, I don't think most people who come into your home will even know that it's simply a humidifier. Looks more like some sort of sound system. After reading comments on how unexpectedly large this unit is, I was a little worried where I would place it. It's really not that obnoxious after all and went nicely next to the wall in the entry way. If you know how to add apps to your smart phone, that's pretty much the only techy aspect and a breeze to do.You wont get lost and it all nearly jumps right into your phone leading you along the way to connect and use the humidifier. Your smart phone or ipad then becomes your remote to operate and monitor the humidifier. My wife doesnt like to hear fans running at night so you can program this off during night time hours. However the low fan setting is barely audible and not annoying at all. The higher fan setting is audible as say a window fan, but a great feature to move the air in your home. We live in Southern California where we are always fidgeting with the humidity in our homes with running our dry heating elements, furnaces and not to mention fireplaces. We had a humidifier next to the furnace in our home when I was a child. If you are not familiar with using one, don't hesitate to try. Adding moisture to the indoor air is soothing to the respiratory system, especially at night and keeps your skin soft and supple. It also protects items in your home such as leather furniture and wood from cracking and drying. I agree with another reviewer in that keeping this on low is about all you'll really need to use for most areas in the country.
I have always lived where there is a good deal of humidity--S. California and Hawaii are not exactly dry. When my husband retired we moved to Eastern Washington, and the thing I have had the most trouble adjusting to is how dry it is here. I wasn't sure if this humidifier would make that much of a difference, but it does. At least in our home, the air is not nearly so dry. I wasn't sure what to expect; this is fairly good sized, but not heavy; it's totally uncomplicated to use; it's quiet, low-maintenance, you can set it on one of 5 settings, from minimum to maximum, the instructions are clear and easy to follow, and it has a readout so you can tell what the humidity is set on. It can even be set up so you can control it from your smartphone. I thought it would make more noise than it does, but it's so quiet I forget it's there. All you need to do is fill the two water tanks--top loaded, one on either end--set it, and forget about it. You need to check and change the filters periodically, and the manual says it can run for up to 60 hrs, depending upon the settings and current humidity. We check and refill them before bed at night, so it's gotten to be routine. It is easy to use, quiet, and works; what could be better?
It’s that time of year when those of us in the Midwest pull out the humidifiers and dutifully refill them each day! After reading that a good humidifier will not only help with dry sinuses, cracked lips, bloody noses and more, we learned that humidifiers have also been tagged with the ability to reduce the survival of flu viruses in the air. With two small children in our house, we may very well put one of these whole house humidifiers in every room! All joking aside, we recently received the Holmes Whole-House Smart Humidifier enabled by WeM and set it up near the master bedroom, which is most centrally located to the other bedrooms in the house. The humidifier is wonderful – it was easy to set up, has a large water capacity via two slim tanks and emits a nice white noise sound that is not too loud. It is a fairly large unit, which I’m assuming all whole house humidifiers are, but they’ve done a nice job on the design so it blends in more with your darker woods. I was excited to receive this particular model due to the web enabled capabilities. However….full disclosure…. we haven’t even attempted to connect to the scheduling feature. We live in a very old home without a humidifier on the furnace, so have always run our smaller, room-size humidifiers around the clock. I’ve found that we’re treating the Holmes Whole-House Smart Humidifier enabled by WeM no differently. Ultimately, we just didn’t see the need for the web enabled capabilities. I should say, however, for homeowners in different circumstances, this would certainly be a bonus feature. And, perhaps, we will try to do this in the near future. Overall, I would definitely recommend the humidifier for its basic capabilities, but simply cannot speak to the web enabled features.
Initially I didn't think that we would need a humidifier but the Holmes Whole- House Humidifier has changed my mind. My family struggles with allergies year round so I am excited to see how much it helps with our sniffles! It arrived last Friday preassembled in a large box. I was throroughly impressed by its sleek design and size. It is larger than I anticipated but coveniently shaped and designed to be placed anywhere in your home. We have placed it in the main living area where there is plenty of space for it to work it's magic. The only downfall is if you are like my family and keep your doors closed at night and think the humidifier will help with dry air.... you are sadly mistaken. It will only be effective for the whole house if doors are open because there is really no way for the moisture to travel unless under the door which is not much room or in open areas. I think calling it a whole house humidifier would have been more appropriate if there were mini humidifiers to be placed in each room that communicated with the main unit. I may be reaching though. :) As far as WeMo is concerned.... sorry folks I have not been able to get the WeMo working and actually don't feel it's necessary for our lifestyle. Overrall, it's a pretty solid and nice looking machine. Well worth the money.
