This grinder has great variability when it comes to grind size. It is really pretty to look at! And it cleans so easily; the glass jar really makes a difference. Only con that I can think of is it is loud, but all burr grinders I have ever had were loud.
I purchased this grinder three months ago. At first I was not happy about it. It did not work as well as I thought it should. Then it stopped working. I called KitchenAid and they sent me a brand new one to replace it. Now I am extremely happy. It works exactly as it should. It is very easy to clean and grinds the coffee exactly the way I like it. I have had many grinders before finding this one and they were all lacking in one way or another most being extremely hard to clean or overheating all the time. I love my KitchenAid grinder!
I switched to a pour over style of coffee, and experimented with a fresh grind. The adjustment is easy, just turn the dial, and it consistently burr grinds perfectly. It is fairly air tight, you can fill the top bowl with beans, and I use a scale to weigh mine out of the bottom. If I grind too much today, the excess sits and waits for the next time. The grind looks like it's effervescent when the hot water is added. No regrets, it's doing a fantastic job these last few months. Hey, and it's a beautiful and functional piece that sits on the counter.
I bought this two months ago after my old burr coffee grinder stopped working. This one is considerably louder - to the point that my wife wondered whether it was supposed to be making such a loud noise as it grinds. Some of the pieces seemed loose too (it vibrates a lot), and the ground receptacle at the bottom isn't flush - so a lot of coffee grounds escape. So it's messier and louder... but it produces a good and consistent grind. Works well for coarser French press, medium drip/pour over and moka and fine for espresso. So I stick with the mess and noise. Plus I bought it already.
We've had many other coffee grinders in the past, and they were like toys in comparison to this grinder. The Kitchen Aid grinder is substantial and a real work horse, as we grind every day. It also is attractive and really adds to your bistro coffee look in the kitchen :o)
