I had a Midland weather radio that played out, so I decided to get the same brand again. Yet it's a different model. I'm disappointed with the changes that have been made. The older model, held the battery life well. So if you needed to unplug and grab it while going to your safe spot (I live in tornado alley), you were able to do so which allowed you to stay informed of the weather on the local radio station. The older model, you were able to adjust the volume for the warning sound itself, which was great. This allows for people who might be hearing impaired, or have PTSD to louder warning sounds to adjust according to their needs. The NEWER model I purchased, WR400, not so much. I always keep it plugged in to a surge strip, plus keep batteries in it for the getting in safe spot in a hurry times. This is not going to work too well. It has been plugged in for about 2 weeks, with batteries in the radio. The batteries already show to be at the lowest mark before being dead. I even turned the backlighting all the way down, because I wonder if by it being lit up all the time could effect this. There is NO volume control for the warning sound, even though there is a volume control on the side of the radio. It does not adjust for the warning sound. I understand it is so people can hear it and get to there safe spot. Once again, there can be people where the loud noise might effect there PTSD. Everyone has a different level of hearing, and a different comfort level for loudness. I do not feel the backlight needs to be constantly on, as long as the time and other features are lit up as in the older model I had. This is all a personal preference for me. That does not mean it isn't acceptable to other users. However, the battery issue is an issue for all, not just me. I have decided I will leave out the batteries. EXCEPT on the days I know there is a risk for tornadoes. I will also, which I do any way, keep an extra set in what I use as my tornado kit for those days. I have not tried the alarm clock on it, so I honestly can't say how that feature works. I hope this review can help at least one person that might need clarification on the volume and/or battery concerns. Everyone stay safe and weather wise !!

I got this radio for the main purpose of alerting my family in the event of a tornado, especialy overnight. I've only had the radio for a few weeks now, and thankfully no threats have come, but the radio has picked up local county weather alert tests which confirms it's ability to sound the alarm in a real event unique to my area. In all, it is basic, simple, good quality.

Easy to Program, Plenty of Options to select based on where you reside. Good signal, good volume, clear announcements. A little on the high side for a weather radio, but after extensive research, well worth the additional cost. Lots of personal programming options and control.

We live in Grnabury, Texas which is Southwest of Dallas. I bought this weather radio just to be safe and get alerts in the event of severe weather conditions. I also have a handheld Midland weather radio but have that for when we travel and I wanted the stationary radio with the longer antenna for better reception indoors. It picks up the broadcast just fine and also has an AM/FM radio and four presets which I guess is a nice touch although I don't listen to the radio for music. All in all, for the price, I think it is a good quality piece of equipment and it is nice looking and I am happy with my purchase.

Can be mounted to the wall. If I had a wish list for this product it would be that the display be the orange so that it does not light up the room at night and/or that there be one more dimming level (there are two). The other wish would be that there also be an app whereby I could use and/control it from my smartphone (change radio station, program other aspects, etc.).
