Super easy to put together. Got this so my 12 year old autistic son could help mow the grass. He had no issues and mowed most of the back yard by himself and was super proud. It's a little louder than I would have liked, but nothing compared to a traditional lawnmower.
The Remington manual push mower is exactly what we hoped it would be! When we received it, our grass/weeds were very tall, so it took a bit to get through it. With the grass/weeds being so tall and thick, it took a few passes to get it cut down and the back wheels loosened a few times so that we had to tighten them again. We can cut the grass whenever we want now and don't have to worry about buying gasoline, which we love because the mower is kept in the house. Just so y'all are aware beforehand, there are some weeds that the mower won't cut down, but a weed wacker/edger does the trick with those. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this mower! We would definitely buy this mower again!
My grandpa used to have an old reel mower so I pretty much knew what to expect. His weighed a ton though. This one is lightweight and isn't too hard to push on even surfaces. I have a bit of trouble cutting on inclines but I had that issue with my gas mower as well. The only bad things I can think of is that it doesn't cut taller grass and can be tough to push through very dense grass. As long as you don't wait too long to cut your grass you should be fine with this mower. Anything that it doesn't cut I just take the weed eater to it. I've got to get it out to trim anyway so it's not really an extra step. I haven't had to sharpen it yet so I'm not sure what kind of hassle that is or if it is at all. You can easily find sharpening kits made for mowers such as these at various places for around $15. For the low price, this is a good mower for anyone curious about reel mowers and want to get rid of the many hassles of gas and electric mowers.
So my friends and family were all laughing, nay, mocking my desire for a reel push mower over a powered one, considering our large, somewhat hilly yard, full of trees and odd spots. They pointed out that sure, despite my asthmatic weakness to petrol fumes, the powered mower was what was needed to work the uneven terrain and the incredibly tall weeds and tough showgrass the previous owners of our house let grow awry. That a reel mower would be tiresome, and hardly up to the task, and would be a waste of an investment. I chose to ignore them. If I'm gonna mow my own yard, I'm gonna mow it my way, so after the other mower gave up the ghost (neighbors/sister left a bunch of glass beer bottles in the ground, on the tall grass, and got some glass shards in the engine, also brother in law left it outside in the rain a bunch) I pushed for this mower, arguing that since it's pretty cheap, if it fails it's not as much of a wasted investment, and could complement our existing mower if it ever got fixed. The thing got here in a timely manner, and makes a lovely sound when pushed, and just chops through the grass like it's nothing- the grass that is, not the tall sapplings and high weeds that dot our yard, which either get stuck wrapped around the sides near the wheels, or are just rolled over and uncut. However, these things are not meant to be mown anyway, and need to be hit with a weed eater or just yanked out of the ground, and with just a little extra effort, my lawn is spotless! It is a lot of effort, and my poor nerdly muscles are sore from just doing a 1/4th of the yard (it is a big yard however) but I feel it's great exercise and good motivation for exercise: I've got to do it regularly to make it stick, and by this time next month I will be more than fit enough from the regular work out. So, all in all, since I'm using a fairly inexpensive mower for a yard well above what it would normally be used for, and it's excelling, I can say that this is a perfect lawn mower for the price, that is excellent for small, flat yards, and with a bit of elbow grease, adequate for moderate to large yards.
The best mower we could have picked for our needs and budget. Our yard is small and mostly flat so no need for something super high powered. I love that this mower cost less than any electric or gas mower, I don't have to mess with wires or pay extra electricity or deal with stinky expensive gas. Economical and ecologically friendly and a great workout (though not too strenuous) I feel great after cutting the lawn now. Plus, without a motor, there's less vibration which is easier on my hands. I do get random weeds that don't want to cut but I just pull those. If it gets jammed on a twig just carefully pull it out, on the highest height (2.5") it doesn't catch on much, goes right over the little dog's tennis balls, though I'd recommend picking them up anyways. My husband was very much against a push mower, he was pleasantly surprised and very happy with it's performance too, even if it meant he was wrong. ;) He put it together in a flash and we were off and mowing. Great buy.
