I set this AC unit up in about 10 Minutes and it was easy. The instructions were confusing at first but I figured it out. The unit is quiet and pumps out some refreshing cold air, it's perfect for our upstairs bedroom. I still haven't figured out how to work it properly yet because the instructions for use are so vague. It has a remote but either I have it set up wrong or the remote doesn't work, I haven't played with it a lot yet except to install it(yes, it gets installed onto one of your windows-but it's not permanent and won't damage the window). Here's what you need to know: You MUST have a dedicated outlet (perhaps even a breaker?)just for this machine that has three prongs (the kind that's grounded) and you can't use that outlet with any other device! We had to rearrange our room because the cord is short and with our computer, alarm clocks, lamps and all the rest it took some planning to figure out what could be plugged in with what.
Well I am in a very hot climate and the A/C in my house doesn't cool the entire house very well. I put this Portable AC in my room and it works like a champ. It was very easy to set up and very east to use. I have used this product for several months now and
My room faces an afternoon sun that makes my bedroom very hot during the spring and summer. My windows are such that they open from right to left and not up and down. And since I am a ground level in an apartment a regular a/c unit would not due. This indoor one works out just great. With the 7000 BTU it is more than enough to cold the room off. Installing the tube vent was a piece of cake and you can easily remove for cleanup and place in storage for the winter when not in use.
OK, I must have been one of the first ones to have purchased this tiny R2D2 unit. Up until know I couldn't find any reviews on this product. I've had it for about 2-3 months now. What can I say, um I love it. I wa slooking for a cheap portable AC due to my apartments old style casement window. This was the cheapest and the unit didn't look too bad from the pictures. Had to purchase it even before reading reviews since it was getting warm in LA. All I can say is great product. Can cool my 151sq foot room down. Plus have used it 5 hours a day for a whole month and my electricity bill went up by only $5. Wow..
This air conditioner is powerful and installation/use is very easy. 2 things though - controls are ONLY via remote control -- would prefer on machine but then machine has a built in place to leave the remote. Other thing the exhaust panel needed to be cut down to fit into my little window (which is why needed the portable) .... but overall it is really great
I looked all over for a small unit. This one fits under a standard height desk/table and that gave me some flexibility in placement. It also fits into my decor much better than a standard (and larger) white unit. It is brown on the front, back, and top with off white sides. Someone else mentioned that it looks a little like a shredder and that would be acurate. It has a nice remote control and the remote stashes in a compartment on the top. It is quiet and keeps my 15x 20' bedroom cool. The only thing that is odd is that there is really only one main vent and it shoots the air upwards toward the ceiling and does not distribute the cool around the room. To solve this, place a small oscellating (sp?) fan on top and you will get a wonderful effect. I'll answer a question that I've seen posted around the Internet: Does it cool a room if you don't have a window handy (like in an office with sealed windows)? No, if you don't put the hose outside, the room actually heats up. In those situations, you'd be better off with just a fan. Another question is whether you need two hoses (one for intake and one for heat output). Although others swear you need two hoses, I didn't find that to be a factor in my testing. The one with one hose simple takes air in from the room and then the hot air is expelled through the one hose. It seems to work fine on this unit and others that I tested. One other note, you don't need to drain this unit of any water intake. Some others require daily draining (what a drag). However, somehow I knocked off the little rubber plug on the back and the water did drain on the floor. I simply put it back in and it's never spilled since. Be sure the plug is in it's hole before you use the unit and you shouldn't have any problems. Enjoy! PS: I also used BillMeLater as the payment and received 0% for an intro period on this product. I liked the service and the free interest. I ordered the product and picked it up at my local store a few days later. The store manager carried it out to my car. This was a very good buying experience.
runs quiet and cools the room great. Good quality product from Haier. Nice and small compared to other portable units. window vent kit easy to install. You cant go wrong with this unit..
Having come from a 12,000 BTU larger unit down to the Haier had me skeptical. I originally purchased the larger unit cause our home central was going to be out for about 2 weeks due to repairs. After it got fixed, the larger unit was way to much overkill, and also rather imposing in my small room. Since my room is the hottest one in the house I knew I needed some extra cooling so I decided to try the Haier. Up to now I am really pleased with the unit. It's certainly not as loud as other people have said, about the same noise level as a regular window unit. I really like the fact that you do not have to drain the water as much as the larger units. Great deal in my opinion, cools great!!!
The bedroom this went in had only a sliding glass door, so there was no other way to fit an A/C into the room. This unit does expel a lot of air outside and that air has to come from somewhere, so efficiency suffers. In my case, the unit can barely keep up in a larger bedroom. Other than that, appearance is nice, remote and controls are simple, and fittings are good.
I'm afraid it didn't work very good at all. It didn't cool the bedroom and it didn't evaporate the water out like it's supposed to. Water leaked all over the floor. I took it back and got a regular window a.c., which works perfectly.
