This is my second Lasko air-flow heater. The first one, after yeoman duty for four years, has petered out. That is, it still works, but gives out very little air. I have cleaned--what I can--of the vents, but space heaters have a limited lifespan. I am grateful my first Lasko air-flow lasted as long as it did. I have unfortunately been living in apartments which do not have heat. I live in a cold climate, the winters here are cold. I am completely dependent on space heaters. My first Lasko was used 24 hours a day for four winters. I think I got my money's worth with that first heater. I expect this one, which is the identical model, to last as long. It shuts itself off if it overheats, like if a blanket should drop on it, which I have done. Yes, really. Great, great safety feature. I am so happy that Lasko still makes these wonderful heaters. Walmart has them at the best price anywhere online (I have been searching and checking). Walmart sells this Lasko at a very affordable price for a workhorse heater. I like the way it looks too.
Despite its retro look, the Lasko 5812 is probably the best small space heater you can buy at this price point. I've had it for several weeks now and it warms my 200 sq/ft home office and adjoining bathroom in just minutes after turning it on. Its best feature is that the warm airflow is at floor level, keeping your feet nice and toasty.
This is exactly what I wanted, it blows good, not like the cheap fan heater I had before. I was surprised to see it was all metal, not plastic. It is sturdy and hot, I use it to blow heat on myself but it will heat a room as I have used it in the bathroom while bathing my dog and it got very toasty in there. Walmart has byfar the best price, I used ship to store and paid 40 bucks. The dial is ALWAYS turned to its lowest setting as it get very hot when turned up. The only thing I would change is its color, I wish it came with options, I would choose black.
This is an amazing heater, it heats up quite a sizable area. My mother is very cold sensitive and we bought this hoping it would take some of the chill out of the air. This heater almost works too good. It filled up my mom's room with very welcome heat. I would recommend this to anyone needing a good basic heater, the controls are easy to use and the way it's built the parts that might be touched by pets or children stay a comfortable temperature.
I brought 4 heater in 2007, 2 heater cords caught on fire, on stopped (another brand) but this lasko is still working and working strong. We are having a bout of cold weather and we just purchased a home and it's larger but I tell you this little heater is really keeping every room we put it in warm so I was looking for another heater and I tell you I was so happy to see they are still carrying the same heater hallelujah!!! Now I can get one for the bedroom (to keep peace) because my husband has made our den is man cave and it is a large room so he has just took over the heater and to keep peace lol I am getting another. Love, love love it. Oh for 3 years I didn't know about how the heater shut off worked but apparently he did and I thought it had a shortage but you just turn it off and unplug it for about 10 minutes then replug it up and turn it on and it works great, this is apart of the overheating and tipping setting great heater and it gets toasted in the bedroom. Now I want have to come and get things started by taking over the man cave. Thank you
Works great, pretty quiet and is very light to carry from room to room. Glad there is a handle in the back also. One star for Walmart shipping - they didn't bother to put the item in a shipping box for protection and privacy and also the shipping label and invoice were put right on the box the heater came in. Just glad this wasn't supposed to be a Christmas present or I would of had to return it because of the label stuck on the box.
I wanted a heater that had a low blower to warm my feet. This is great for that while I am at the talble reading. It will heat up a small room fast, but I don't use it in bedroom because it is noisy for sleeping. It is good if you want a quick heat in a small area.
My previous heater that was about 6 years old stopped running. I needed a quick replacement since cold weather was just starting. I was thankful the Lasko 5812 came in a day earlier than was scheduled. This heater warms up my large bedroom quickly to a nice toasty temp. I love it. My only regret is that it's so noisy. That's okay since it muffles out the barking of the dogs next door.
I'm very happy with this product. I do recommend it. Just one important thing that as a customer I highly dislike was the shipping took to long and the way that the package came was unexpected. They just slapped the shipping label on the original box. Very dissatisfied about that. Unprofessional
