I was a bit concerned that it would not meet my needs but was pleasantly surprised. It is efficient, quiet and very easy to empty. Obviously due to the size it would not keep my entire basement dry but it does a good job wherever I set it.
I order the Soleus 45 pints a couple of weeks ago, so for its working great. I put a hose on it so I wouldn't have to dump so much, it was doing it's job. It's to early to rate or recommend to friends, maybe later, but I will say I pleased as of now. Thanks, Soleus....
This product makes a HUGE difference. My cousin and I visited my Grandfather's house this summer (now vacant, no ac), and discovered an overwhelming musty smell, and mold growing on many surfaces. The US EPA website recommends humidity levels below 60% percent to prevent mold growth; we gave the place a thorough scrubbing, purchased this little dynamo, and discovered that the humidity level in the house was 93%!! We left it on the kitchen counter set for 50%, draining into the kitchen sink - when we came back a few weeks later, humidity was a steady 50%, and the situation was MUCH improved. Purchasing this dehumidifier was the best decision we made. When I discovered a few little spots of mold in my own basement a few months later, I ordered one of these for myself immediately. Our basement humidity was near 80%, but we had it down to 50% within a week. I did have some trouble initially getting it to drain into the hose - when they say to cut the hose to fit, they really mean it - lots of coils, even if they're below the unit, will interfere with the flow. Fortunately, the unit is designed so that if the water isn't flowing well through the hose, the backup will drip through the point where the hose connects, and fall into the collection bucket - and the unit will automatically shut off when the bucket is full. No spills! That's very clever engineering. (The unit can be set up to drain through the hose, for minimal maintenace, or into the bucket for maximum portability. My experience with the bucket is that it filled up within 10 hours and needed to be emptied; that was at higher humidity levels, in the 70% to 90% range.) A friend in the building industry said that materials can begin to crack if humidity levels get below 30%, which is why I settled on the 50% figure - and this seems to be comfortable. The unit is heavy for me (I'm a 100-pound older woman), but the wheels are great. And I was able to lift it onto higher surfaces for permanent draining. After these experiences, I consider one of these units a MUST-HAVE for any basement or other humid location.
I bought this dehumidifier at the same time I also picked up a cheaper sunpentown. I wish I had bought two of these. The sunpentown hardly removed any moisture at all. This Soleus pulls about 15 pints every two hours from my bathroom and it pulls about 30-35 pints every 2 hours from my basement. Also it has a humidity level setting that work pretty well as well as a 2 and 4 hour timer. This thing is a rockstar!
This unit is smaller than the one it is replacing, much quieter even on high fan speed and seems to be much more efficient. The tank seems a bit small but I never intended to use it so it doesn't matter. It easily connects to a garden hose for constant drainage to a floor drain and is well designed for use in this manner. I am very pleased with overall design, construction and operation. I have never heard of this brand but would buy another in an instant.
Purchased this unit for a very small basement space. It is totally overkill for the area. The fan is loud and it puts off too much heat for the space. The space is 6wide by 8 long by 5 high. It is a sub-basement where the watermain comes into the house. The unit does great for drying it out, but generates too much heat, stays about 76 to 80 in the space. I would recommend this for a larger area if you're not too worried about fan noise.
I purchased a Soleus 40-Pint Dehumidifier w/ Humidistat CFM-40 and it was great. Gave it to my parents to use and was going to order me another one. But I decided to buy this Soleus Energy Star 45-Pint Dehumidifier, DP1-45-03 instead. Both do a fantasic job, but I like the 40 pint better. This 45 pint was louder and put out alot more heat. My 40 pint was extremely quite and hardly any heat. My parents didn't need my 40 pint after all, so now I am using it instead of the 45. They both do a great job, I just like the other one better.
This dehumidifier does a great job. When I first turned it on, we had 85% humidity and after two days it was down to 65% and nows after a couple weeks it stays around 55% humidity. I was emptying it twice a day so I hooked up a hose. It drains perfectly. The only drawback that I have noticed is it does put off a lot of heat. Other than that, it does a great job!
I received my dehumidifier last week within days of my ordering it. I am very pleased with the service provided by Walmart.com and with the product. I ordered this because on another retailer's website I read reviews about Soleus that were very positive. The other retailer did not have the size product that I wanted, but Walmart.com did, so that is why I ordered. It is performing well and am pleased with quality.
I have a 10+ year old dehumidifier that still works well after all these years. I needed another one but couldn't find the make or model of my original one so I bought this one instead based on good reviews. Well, there are good and bad points of this unit. First, it is quieter than my old one and it has digital display which gives a modern look and feel. The unit gets things done and is easy to setup and use. The down side is the water holder is about one half the size of my old unit, which means I have to empty it more often, which to me, is a major step backward. If you are going to connect an external hose and let the water drain away that way, this is not a problem, but if you are like me, who don't have a drain nearby, this is annoying. I don;t understand why the designer choose this route, why couldn't they simply make the unit larger and therefore it can hold a water holder of larger size. I wonder if the product designer every use his/her own product in the real world.
