I read all the one star reviews and thought there was no way my Roku Express would stop working. I have excellent internet coverage! Sure enough, after 3 months it stopped connecting to my wifi. I read the troubleshooting articles, reset my router, reset the device, and plugged the wifi extender next to the Roku device but I get nothing. I have excellent internet signal on my Roku but absolutely no connectivity. Please avoid this product!
I bought this at the end of November and I haven't used it much at all since I'm not a big tv watcher. However 2/21/22 my device stopped connecting to the WiFi and that seems to be a common issue with this product. It says I have excellent signal strength and all my other devices are connected to WiFi except my Roku. I really hate that I invested in this device, not only because it doesn't work but because you can't even get in touch with any in support after you've followed all the troubleshooting steps that are pointless and don't work. Roku knows it's their devices that are horrible but they'll continue to say check your connection. Don't waste your time or money. And Roku, DO BETTER!!!!!
In the year that I've owned this unit I've had nothing but aggravation. Constant Wi-Fi issues and software crashes. My old Roku 2 XS was a far better experience. I don't live in a big house, nor is it built in a way to cause range issues. I don't have issues with other devices near it, yet I constantly get dropouts. These interruptions will often cause it to spontaneously reboot, though even just trying to play something will do that. It's not just a poor performer with Wi-Fi. Every channel will take several seconds to launch. It was almost instant on my old unit. Overall it's been a downgrade from a unit that was almost ten years old. Don't be enticed by the low price. Spend a bit more and get a unit with a better wireless chipset and faster CPU. As much as I've liked Roku over the competition, I can't help but feel somewhat soured by my experience.
I have used roku products in the past and had good luck with the main "Ultra" units. However I am going to have to join the list of recent complaints in that my Express wifi just suddenly stopped working. Did a factory reset and even put he router right next to it with no luck. All other devices roku and non still connected ok. Cannot recommend the express units with these issues going on.
upon set up and connecting to the internet a prompt comes up stating the device will now update. After this up date the device restarts stays at a purple screen for 10 minutes and restarts again and does this in a continuous cycle, tried a different tv, hdmi cable, power cable and box for roku, downloaded the app, and yet nothing helped. I also held the reset button in every way imaginable.
