If you have an active child (or a child for that matter!) I HIGHLY suggest considering another product. This child GPS has such a limited warranty, that it does not make sense to give the watch to a child. The GPS is quite erratic, shows that my son is in several houses near ours, when the watch is sitting on the charger. I called the frustrating customer service line and was told that someone would contact me about the problem soon. I received an email (in timely fashion, I will concede) that was just an excerpt from the FAQ page THAT DID NOT ANSWER my question. So I called again, finally receiving an email that addressed my problem. I was to expand the home area. One problem, my child's roaming restrictions fall into this area. Therefore the watch was not useful. But this is not the only reason for my discontent. My son had used the watch for ~20 minutes on two separate occasions. The watch fell off of his wrist on the second occasion because the pin holding the clasp together was improperly inserted. The entire watch fell as he was riding his bike and the watch face shattered on the curb. I contacted (responses always only through email, no ability to actually TALK to someone!!) customer service (which seems to be just one person, Jesse). I was told that the warranty does not cover face damage. I insisted that the fault was with the manufacturing and that a problem there SHOULD be covered under any warranty. Five email responses , several voicemail messages left on my part, one voicemail from Jesse with the incorrect call back number!, and many emails received with more excerpts from the FAQ page that did not apply to my situation, and the final outcome is that CAREF does not stand behind their product! I was told that it was my child's fault and therefore I could purchase (at regular internet price) a new one. Of course I could purchase a new one but why would I? Customer service is terrible, the GPS is too sensitive (received 16 alerts that my 10 year old left and returned to the house between 2 am and 4 am!!), and the warranty is no warranty at all! My suggestion to any that are considering this product, think very carefully about how active your child is, what your home range will be (city or suburban areas are too dense for a couple blocks radius), and how much do you want to spend time and time again after your child falls and cracks the face-plate.
I bought this watch for my sons birthday. Considering he is in school I figured it'll be great for him to have a gps tracker on him and I can call him in case of emergency. Plain and simple it's horrible. Although they give you 100 emergency gps locations with your monthly service I clicked it 7 times one day when my son was on a school trip to see where he was. If never worked. I've come to noticed it rarely worked. It never even worked when we was home. His location would show he was elsewhere. I contacted the company and they said that I should trouble shoot the problem, which I did with them 3 times.. Still no progression.. I would never recommend anyone to purchase, God forbid I relied on this watch during an urgent time in need. Stay far away parents.
The provisioning the watch itself is straightforward but the phone routing/sequencing is buggy. While the website states only three numbers, it also asks for #4 and #5 phone numbers and yet the call out goes directly to #4 skipping the first three. We finally worked through all the numbers and "believe" it is working ok now. The geo fence feature does not have any scheduling and is a bit unreliable due to the cell technology. We would get alerts that the child has moved out of the area if the cell reception is a bit spotty. I don't think Caref has misled us on this point, but worth noting. In any case, the reason I gave two stars is that the buckle (not strap) simply fell off within 30 days of purchase - cheap quality. But looks like this fairly common/expected - Caref has a replacement purchase on the website for $10. I think it would have been better if they allowed for an option to purchase quality straps from third party instead.
Im going to assume any good review about this product came from the company the company themselves. This is the worst product I have ever bought. It was purchased before Christmas as a Santa gift, and as most of you know early shopping bites if you cant return something after so long. The first one we had we tried to activate it and it said due to bad battery quality of this device we were going to be sent a better updated version. Upon receiving we activated this device and attempted to use it for the first time. It fell off my sons wrist, I had decided I would just piece the strap back together, but after days of trying to get this device to work, we soon concluded it wasn't worth it any longer. The GPS will not locate for anything, you cant hear each other when you make phone calls, the SOS button only called the first emergency contact and when I didn't answer it was suppose to contact the next one and so on and that did not happen, but guess what they charged us for 12 minutes used on that phone call. I tried calling there support number multiple times to just be hung up on by the automated system, give the number a call its one big joke and that will give you a hint. Then I tried email that also didn't work as I never received a reply. Finally chat on their webpage where much to my surprise didn't go over very well. The product was "damaged" by use so we do not fall under warranty and do not receive a replacement. YOU CAN NOT CANCEL YOUR PLAN ON THE WEBSITE SO BEWARE WHEN YOU SIGN UP FOR ONE! Also this is ran by TMobile which they never tell you before you get this subscription. Well guess what doesn't work in my area TMobile, I asked several times in this chat if TMobile was the reason we were not able to use this device and NEVER got an answer. So I am making an assumption here but if you don't get TMobile in your area you can almost bet this watch will not work! LOOK ELSE WHERE BECAUSE THIS WATCH IS A JOKE!
I am glad we bought the watch, but I hope the make some improvements in the near future. The GPS is not quite accurate enough, and it doesn't update the last or current location frequently enough. The GPS capabilities of this watch are better than nothing, but it is not spot on accurate. For example, my child may be on inside the school but the GPS locator will show the location a few hundred yards away from where the wearer of the watch really is. Also, I would like for the watch to update the location within at least 2 mins when my child is moving from location to location.
