I installed a few sensors on our exterior doors to satisfy my wife who is gone alone most days. The installation and setup was super fast and super simple. Using the app is probably even more simple. If a door opens we know right away. As an added bonus, if a door is open for a short period of time while the AC is on the system automatically shuts down the AC until the door is closed. Very smart.
Subscription required to put your A/C in hold. But wait here's the fun part… your system will still turn on in hold the whole time. So much for savings. My unit was still kicking on, on a day that was nice and I trusted the sensors putting my unit in hold. Thinking it means not to turn on. Thankfully it wasn't much but these sensors are a complete waste. Hold apparently still means your system runs I guess. Make the sensor turn the unit OFF not in hold if it's still going to run! Here is it “saving me money” while my door sensors said open. It waited until I fell asleep to run too! I work nights and will leave my windows and door open on nicer days. I typically turn off the system myself. Apparently I will still have to do that. After this disaster of a first test.
I had originally purchased the window and door sensor to go along with my Ecobee thermostat to enable the function to disable heating and cooling if the windows/doors were open. That function DOES NOT WORK within the app. I tried multiple times to resolve the issue with no luck. Also once they were added I was automatically enrolled in the security monitoring for 60 days free. I did not ask for this and do not want this. But there is no way to remove it from the app and so I'm just waiting for it to run out. Overall the product is fine if not a little chunky. But since it does not do what I originally purchased it for I could not recommend this to anyone.
The sensors do work well. However, the thermostat does know when the windows or door are left open, it just doesn't shut itself off without a subscription. I don't need the security system as I live in a secure building. I didn't realize you needed the subscription for the thermostat to shut off. Ecobee, you need to change how you advertise these sensors. Very disappointed. If you are trying to save energy, this should be included without paying a subscription.
the sensors work well, and the ecobee sees and reports their function just fine, but to be able to put it in standby when they're open more than a few minutes you have to shell out 6 bucks a month for the 'haven' subscription, for a function that could clearly work without it. have absolutely no need at all for the rest of the haven subscription "features" and will cancel before end of free trial and just eat the cost of the sensors, and never buy or recommend another ecobee product to anyone if this is their new way of doing business.
