[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've wanted a large volume Cocotte for year and finally found a beauty of a 9qt for a great price. The Grenadine color matches my Oval Roaster, which was my first Staub pot, and it's a stunner of a color. As far as cooking surfaces go I prefer Staub's to LeCreuset. I just prefer the black to a white surface. I also outfitted it with their adorable Pig knob. Btw Staub, you should make dish themed knows for parties/holidays. Like a green bean knob for green bean casserole and so on...just an idea. Send me the royalties.
This gorgeous grenadine cocotte adorns our Christmas Eve table every year. I use it to make cioppino, a fish stew. I love the size - perfect depth for a whole crab and tons of shellfish. It has self-basting spikes on the interior of the lid which collect and return all moisture back into dish building your flavor base. The pan works on any cooking surface, including induction. I have used it on my BBQ many times as an additional heat source, its safe up to 500F.
All the great attributes and benefits of Staub ratcheted up too handle many hungry mouths. This fabulous cast iron will do all you want it to, and for as many people as you have to feed. Size does not affect this pot. It will cook as evenly as you expect it to. And the durable enamel coating inside makes for easy clean up and the deep enamel coating on the outside makes for a beautiful presentation at the table. This is not your run of the mill cast iron. This is lifetime quality stuff - a pot to build memories with and that the kids and grand kids will use too.
These round cocottes come in a variety of sizes, all of which roast, boil, bake, fry, braise and simmer to the highest possible standards. Cast iron cooking has been around for millennia and there is a reason. It is the ultimate for low slow cooking. Put the pot on the fire come back hours later and the food is done. So if you like cast iron comforting reliability of cast iron cooking then why not have a pot in every side. Cooking for 1, or 2, or 3 or 20, its all so easy in Staub's beautifully crafted pots. The workmanship and the quality of the cast iron ensure that the heat is directed to the food. The fine enamel finish - inside and out - make for attractive presentation at the table, and easy clean up afterwards. Enjoy each size as you use them. I do.
This beautifully two toned gray colored, 9 qt, is my preferred Staub Dutch oven, in my collection I have several other colors and enjoy each one. Honestly, the Majolique colors are the very best and worth the slight extra price. I never see fingerprints and they are like stained glass, different lighting give a different appearance. I love this size for entertaining, it gives food a bit of room to move around, which makes it easier to use from oven to table. A nice sized roast fits comfortably along with any root veggies that you want to add. It gives you room to stir the liquid without spilling a drop for liquid gold!
