Could never connect even with hours of customer service help
Had to replace my old WD My Cloud when company stopped supporting My Cloud OS 3. I had my previous device for over 10 years without any problems. The user interface is not very user friendly. Compared to the My Cloud OS 3, this My Cloud Home is more difficult to set up with ambiguous instructions and the IOS app is horrible. I tried to search for a file and the app would only allow me to search for pictures. Needless to say, I am not satisfied and wholly disappointed.
I bought the My Cloud Home to replace the WD MyCloud that I had been using for years and was very happy with for file storage and for DNLA streaming of my music. The new My Cloud Home makes if very difficult to do either of my primary uses. It does not integrate well into my PC's file system and does not do DNLA streaming. I have not figured out how to get the add on Plex to work at all. My music streamer still recognizes my old drive but cannot see the new one so I am very unhappy with it. It seems to integrate with my Iphone and Ipad better than with my PC desktop.
First off, I do enjoy this drive, but I had high expectations due to upgrading from the MyCloud, and thinking it was basically the new model for the MyCloud. The setup was fairly easy, but it wasn't immediately apparent how to add this as a network drive on my windows and mac computers. I eventually figured out I needed WD Discovery. My biggest complaint about this storage is the limited functionality compared with the MyCloud, and that it is not a true NAS. There were a lot more configuration options and features with the MyCloud which are not present with this drive. If you are looking for a simple backup and file storage solution on your network, this would likely work well for you. If you are looking for something to replace your MyCloud, which is similar in features and config options, this is not a good option.
I had a My Cloud which I was told had to be replaced. So I did so but within a month, this product ceased to function and while booting up the drive made noises and beeps. For a month I tried the many same solutions given by the support folks with same results of 'offline' cloud. I finally returned it and waiting for replacement but have lost data. I find this product flimsy and unreliable. It also is not so simple to just plug in and have it as another drive. We must download WD Discovery and set that up to access it.
