I bought this camera before going on vacation to the Dominican because the camera that I had before (a Kodak) constantly took blurry photos. This camera is very clear and takes good photos under most circumstances. Even while I was moving or my subject was moving, the photos came out clear. This model takes AA batteries which I like because I have rechargeable AAs and a battery charger. I used the camera very regularly for two weeks and only had to change the batteries once toward the end. The only problem I encountered was that I couldn't use the CD to upload the Canon picture software because I have a little netbook and my screen resolution doesn't go high enough. But I love the camera itself and I've had no problems so far!
I ordered this as a spare for my husband for his international horseback riding trips. We both have a previous model - the A1000IS and really like them. The A1200 just adds a few more pixels and features. This is one of the last small cameras available that uses regular AA batteries and has a viewfinder!! Using regular batteries is a very important feature when traveling away from the amenities of civilization. Without a viewfinder it is nearly impossible to compose a good picture in the bright sun. It's a shame that manufacturers are doing away with these features. I haven't tried the new 'smart' features yet but they should make picture taking simple for those who don't want to worry about the settings.
This is turning out to be a nice little camera. I am by no means camera savy in any way shape or form. What I have discovered is that if you use the easy option located on the top dial (it has a heart icon), the camera self adjusts and takes really nice pictures. I used this feature for inside pictures the other night and they turned out well. I haven't learned all the features and until I do I will continue to use the easy mode. I've also discovered you can change the .mov file to an .avi file using the software that came with the camera. I used it with some video I took which needed to be copied to a disk to use with another computer. It took me a while to figure out but if I can do it, I know others can. This was a bone of contention with several reviews written previously but if one checks out the software they'll see there is a solution. Over all I've been very pleased with this camera
This is an excellent high quality camera for the price. I think it's the only point and shoot camera available today with an optical viewfinder. The picture quality more than meets my expectations. I have owned nine digital cameras since 1999. I also currently own a high end Canon, the SX20is. Sometimes however it's handy to have a simple point and shoot camera for quick day trips and this camera works great.
Love this camera so easy to use and takes great picture. It's easy to print and download. I own a older one of the same camera and know how long they last. Love the quality of the pictures and it allows you to zoom in and get great shots.
This is a great camera. It takes good pictures, especially in daylight. It is very easy to use and convenient in size to take with you everywhere. The viewfinder is great, as most digital cameras this size don't have them anymore. The videos are good quality. The camera only takes about a 10 minute video at one time and then stops. I used this on my 2 week vacation and was please with it. Of course it is not comparable to the very expensive cameras, but for the price it is fantastic. It looks nice, is light weight and fits in pocket or purse.
Just returned from vacation with this new camera. I bought this camera because it is small, fits in my pocket ,is very high resolution and, like no other that I could find with its small size, has an optical viewfinder. The optical viewfinder, for me, is necessary to use in bright sunlight particularly on the water. All functions on this camera worked exceptionally well. Very Happy with this product.
We bought this camera as a second camera, small and easy to carry. Features we liked included the viewfinder and AA batteries. The camera was all it was advertised to be. It takes great photos, is simple to operate and takes surprisingly good video. Its better video with as good sound as our Canon S5IS. Low light photography was great when using the discreet mode which surprised me. The shutter button takes a little practice and it doesn't come with an SD card. Don't buy it expecting $500 camera options and performance because its only a small simple camera with a 4x optical zoom. Buy it if you want a good little camera that takes good photos, has a view finder to use when its too bright outside for the display, and you don't need a special battery.
I purchased this camera three weeks ago for my wife. It was to replace a six year old camera. I selected this camera based on recommendation by friends, the price, and the features. (Size, focus methods, controls, view finder, wide angle.) As older folks, we don't have the best eyesight. The large display and especially the view finder for use in bright sun are great features. The controls are much easier to use and more user friendly than our old camera. (Very important for my wife) The layered features, and menus, make it easy and quick to use for snap shots yet sufficiently powerful for us to get more control over special shots and situations.
Takes great pictures in sunlight. Select one of the program modes that lets you trun flash on for marginal light conditions and your pictures should turn out OK. The attached picture was taken out the window at highway speed with the camera set to auto.
