These are very surprising bowls! I started right off with the hot water test to see how fast a bowl of soup would defeat the material. Well, didn't soak in at all during a 20 minute hot water test. The top and interior of these bowls is quite smooth. The material is thick and rigid, didn't buckle when carrying full of water by one side of the bowl. The bottom of the bowls has a very nice non-slip texture that is comfortable in the hand. DIMENSIONS: 6 and 1/2 inch outside diameter (includes the lip) Inside diameter 5 and 5/8" Depth is 2" 20 ounces of water comes within 1/8 inch of the top lip. I definitely recommend these compostable bowls! As to if worms would digest them in a compost bin or compost pile, I did not have time to determine that, 95% bio-based material.
When you purchase some frozen, ready to heat and eat meals they come in a bowl that you can use just like china. Now you can purchase this bowl for yourself and meals you make at home. I cook double of some recipes and freeze half. This bowl is perfect for that. Then you can defrost and microwave right in the same bowl. I heated soup in this bowl and it held up perfectly. The soup didn't soften the bowl at all. It works well in freezing cold and high heat. They are also good for the environment because they can be throw in the compost pile and will degrade.
These disposable bowls are nice and deep. They are also very sturdy. The inside of the bowl seems to have a coating and foods didn't soak through. I'm a recycler so I'm happy to find good quality bowls that are made of a material that will easily decompose.
We've eaten with these a few times. Our kids had cereal with milk, and even ice cream. No issues there. They're big enough to hold most bowl-required foods. I was hoping I could use them as flower pots after we used them for food. In fine print, it says "commercially compostable", so I'm not sure how well it would work. Anyway, these work well for their intended use. They're sturdy, too.
I like these bowls because they can be use to gather blueberries, strawberries, peppers, or other produce from our garden. They could also be used for a personal salad, bowl of soup, cake and ice cream, cheese grits and eggs, or whenever you need a bowl. The possibilities are endless. I like the size and construction of the bowl. And when you have no farther use for it this bowl can go into the compost pile. Because it's white it lets it's contents be the star not some printed design.
I don't know what I was expecting-something flimsier, maybe that started disintegrating right away like those cardboard or corn starch straws? But these bowls were sturdy-like what you'd expect from Chinet products and they didn't leak when the kids ate ice cream when it was approx 293423 degrees outside and they left their bowls sitting around outside. I didn't compost them, that seems like a lot of gross work, but I felt better about throwing them away than if we'd used styrofoam, so there's that. Wouldn't hesitate to buy these again.
I tried this product and received a full rebate in exchange for my honest opinion. This compostable bowl is the perfect disposable bowl for a picnic or an outdoor gathering especially because it would be ideal to throw it away without worrying about the environment. It is also very sturdy and firm, so it can hold heavier food. I mostly used for dry food items and it was ideal. Not sure about liquid. Great product overall!
The Great Value 20oz Compostable Bowl purchase could save one time going forward. I utilize the bowls to prepare oatmeal in a microwave, and then hand wash afterwards for another use. The bowls are 95 percent bio-based and are soak resistant so they don't deteriorate. The 20 bowl set is great to have around when suddenly a need arises for more bowls due to unintended guests dropping in, or recipes that are a little more complicated. They are a neutral color that in most cases would complement existing dining-ware. Try this product and be pleased. They would also complement the plates that consist of the same characteristics that are also available from Great Value. I would rate the product highest if they were dishwasher safe.
I always hesitate with paper bowls as I most often want to use them for thinks like oatmeal, cereal, or pasta. They need to be sturdy enough to withstand temperature and liquid. I was able to microwave my oatmeal and eat it without getting bits of paper in my bites or it being too hot to hold or soggy. This was a big plus! I did take a star away as there was some condensation through the bottom and when I took the bowl from the stack the edge ripped slightly. The fact that it's compostable makes up for this I think.
I really like that these bowls are compostable. They are sturdy and pretty durable. The label says they are microwave safe so I made some oatmeal in one. It held up great in the microwave. The bowl didn't feel flimsy when I took it out nor did any of the bowl material scrape off the sides when I stirred it. The parts of the bowl that didn't have any oatmeal touching them were still cool to the touch. The bottom of the bowl was warm to the touch. At first, I was able to hold it in the palm of my hand with no issues but the longer it sat in my hand the warmer it became to the point I had to set it down. The label also says cut-resistant and soak-resistant. I placed some sliced tomatoes in the bowl and then took 2 knives and cut them into chunks. The knives never cut completely through the bowl but they did leave knife marks on the bottom. I had chicken noodle soup in one and the bowl never leaked or did the bottom ever feel soft like it was about to leak. Overall this is a decent bowl and I wouldn't hesitate to use it again. I gave it 3 stars because of how warm the bottom of the bowl got when the label states the bowl is supposed to be temperature resistant.
