I rarely use paper plates, but sometimes they're convenient. For instance, when I make dinner for relatives coming over to celebrate a birthday, etc., it's nice to use paper plates rather than filling up my dishwasher. These are great plates. They're thick and sturdy -- can't imagine any food soaking through or them getting flimsy and spilling. They're roomy too with plenty of space for lots of food. I love that they're compostable, so I don't feel bad about contributing something to a landfill that will be around 100 years from now. They're made with PFAS and are 95% biobased, which I admit I don't truly know the meaning of. Microwave safe is a nice feature, and these are temperature-resistant too. Great plates you can feel good about using!
Great Value plates have been my go to since I went to the store and they had sold out of Dixie. Chinet is way to expensive for me. These plates seem to be as strong as the Chinet Plates and way less money. The only thing that may matter to some is that the depth of the plate is slightly lower than the regular Great Value Plates I purchased. See pictures. If you need a deeper plate you may want the regular Great Value plates.
These plates enable me to reheat meals in the microwave without experiencing any leakage. They are durable and do not bend when picked up by one edge. Without hesitation, I can even cut the food in the plate that is being reheated which included pizza as well as sausage, chicken, and burger patties. They are deep enough to hold foods that have liquids without spilling over. These plates are superior for reheating and serving. They are also compostable which is a bonus for the planet.
These are great! Disposable, yet very sturdy! We used these for pizza and salad. The weight of the pizza was definitely not too much for these plates, and the salad dressing didn't make them any flimsier. I am very pleased with these! I also love this size...they are a little bigger than some of the other paper plates I've purchased. I don't do composting, so I can't comment on that aspect of them. Overall, I would definitely purchase again!
I am amazed by how much these compostable plates can hold! When I opened these plates, I was quite pleased with the thickness of the plates and knew I would use them instantly that evening with dinner. I usually have to use real plates when eating ribs and all the sides at dinner because the food is quite heavy and can leak through. However, these plates held the food with no problem and did not leak through at all! I am impressed that these plates can hold such weight since they are made from natural plant fibers and are 95 percent bio-based and made without PFAS. These plates are also microwave safe and temperature-resistant which is +++++ in my book. I will never buy another brand or type of plates again! Highly recommend, you will not be disappointed.
The Great Value 10 inch compostable plates were surprisingly durable and are a great size. I microwaved pizza and fried rice on them. Some grease was absorbed into the plate, but it didn't leak through to the other side. I also put a thin layer of water on the plate and let sit for 30 minutes. Again, no water leaked all the way through to the other side. The plate was still able to handle a 1 lb bag of beans after that without completely flopping or bending. The only negative is that is says compostable at a commercial facility only. I am not sure what that means- that you can't toss it onto your home compost pile?
If you are specifically looking for compostable plates, then these are great choice. They are quite sturdy for what they are. But realize, you are sacrificing a little for the compostability. Well they are reasonably sturdy for most normal uses, you certainly could get sturdier for about the same price if you didn't need to compost them. So it really comes down to what your needs are. These are obviously better for the planet if you do plan on composting them. Just be careful if you try to put a full meal with sides on them. It will hold them, but you want to make sure you have a hand underneath to prevent it from folding backward and spilling.
Love the overall size of these plates and the fact you can throw them in the compost bin without issues. It's great to use a paper alternative plate when you are having a BBQ or party, but still be able to feel like you are harming the planet slightly less. They seemed to remain sturdy and not disintegrate as you ate on them.
The Great Value 10 inch Compostable Plate is a good, sturdy paper plate, comparable to any other good "cinette" style paper plate. It is a little brownish, not bright white... I assume in keeping with the eco-friendly image of the product. It also says on the packaging that the plates were made with no PFAS. However, I was disappointed to learn that the packaging also says the plates "COMMERCIALLY COMPOSTABLE ONLY." I wanted plates that I could compost out in my backyard. The packaging also states "FACILITIES MAY NOT EXIST IN YOUR AREA." Bummer. I live out in the country. I KNOW fancy composting facilities don't exist where I live. I am, however, planning to attempt to compost these plates in my backyard anyway. We'll see how well they break down over time. If it wasn't for the "COMMERCIALLY COMPOSTABLE ONLY" bit, I would have rated these plates a "5."
Out of the package there is a very strong, very unpleasant odor. The packaging says "Microwave safe and soak resistant. I placed some cheese on the plate and placed it in the microwave for 25 seconds, to make cheese lace. The cheese oils soaked into the plate and the fibers became part of the food. Also, once placed in the microwave, the odor became stronger. I would not recommend this product.
