I purchased this Suncast storage building as I was very satisified with their product. The overall construction and design is great on the one purchased last year for garden supplies. This year the second Suncast storage building was purchased for storing our holiday decorations. Christmas decorating has been a tradition passed on from father to son with every year growing larger. Our storage was outgrowing our garage and attic so the new storage building was needed. We look forward to filling it with the Joys of the Holidays each year. I know the safety and security of our decorations is excellant. The available storage accessories I ordered last year for the garden tools keeps everything neat and right at hand. The hanging roof shelves have the bulky garden items up off the floor and easy to reach. I love gardening and the storage has been a real help in getting what I want to use quickly. I have recommended this product to neighbors and friends.
I like this shed design and assembly. It is very important to properly prepare the ground/platform to be perfectly level. I have heavy clay soil on uneven ground and so had to haul-in about 3 cubic yards of class 5 gravel to provide a solid firm foundation. I took the dimensions for building a wooden platform in the instruction manual to Home Depot and got all pressure treated lumber cut to size. I used 2x4 treated lumber instead of 2x6. I did this even before the shed arrived from WalMart (using directions downloaded from Suncast's website). The unassembled shed weighs around 650 pounds and there seems to be hundred or more parts including hardware. Suncast did a poor job of labeling the hardware items (nuts/bolts etc). So I had to lay everything out in my garage and use my own Post-It Notes to label each part myself in a sequence. Resist the temptation to start assembling right away...get organized and a little bit of planning upfront will pay dividends later on. I had to use a leveling gauge to ensure the wooden platform is level before installing the floor. Despite doing this, there was some challenge in lining up a couple of the right side walls to mesh with each other and with the roofing. This portion is mostly taken care of. The upper latch for the door broke during door assembly but Suncast shipped a free latching mechanism within 5 days for free. I wish the wall panels are a little stronger and wish Suncast would add some strengthening ribs...otherwise the walls feel flimsy and seem to cave if you rest your palm on them. We have had some heavy rainstorms in northern Minnesota and it has not leaked yet. A 10'x10' shed is a nice size: not too big or not too small but choices of brands are limited in this size. As the title says, "only time will tell" about long-term durability.
It does require careful attention to the instructions but it did go together well and I am pleased with the resulting product. Construction of the base platform is essential. Help is also needed. One person can't assemble this shed by himself. I would suggest at least three people. It also requires two to three days time to assemble it. It is worth all the effort.
Im happy with shed, bought it almost a year ago. I put it together by myself(could have used some help), it was pretty simple to put togerther with reading directions. It is very important to build a strong and level foundation, the people that wrote bad reviews probally didnt have a solid foundation. The roof was a little tricky buy overall I would recomend this shed to anyone.
I really researched this product before choosing to purchase. So gald I did. Assembly is difficult, but I had help. It looks great and I have plenty of room for storage. The reviews of this product are what made my mind up. I really feel it was a great value. I hope to get years of use out of it.
Spent one weekend building the platform for this shed. Only took 6 hours to put together the shed by myself (not recommended). Instructions were clear and easy to understand.
I just put this shed toghther, and I am happy with my purchase. Took about 4 hours with a friend helping to assemble. Everything pretty much just snaps together. I had wooden sheds in the past that are much more stable, but I got this so I could take it apart and move it later. If you plan on moving it at a later date, it is a great buy.
Level, solid foundation!! Level, solid foundation!! The shed is a little quirky to put together, but my son and I did it in about 6 hours. There was a couple of pieces missing (gave me an extra bag of screws I did not need and left out a bag I did need).I thought a slight angle (built wood platform) would not make a difference but it does. I put it up in about 40 degree weather and some clips still broke off. I would take there advice further by saying do not install in temps lower than 50 degrees ( they say 32 degrees). I figured for $1400 the floor would be a little better. My favorite critters (spiders) have many ways to get in through all the floor openings (small gaps). Overall, the shed meets my needs and was fairly easy to put together versus cheaper steel sheds that have 500 screws to screw in. As I said, once I had a level platform, the shed went up fairly quick. A little expensive, but I will have to wait to see how it handles snow and rain to see if the waterproof part is true. If it is then the price is okay. My last shed (galvanized steel) collaspsed under heavy snow. It seems solid so if all is true, the price is right.
The shed is very easy to put together, but is best if there are two people. A good, flat, and level base is critical. I used the wood base described in the instructions, but used 2X4 instead of 2X6. Worked great and gave a solid foundatiion. Took us 1 day to get materials and build foundation, 1/2 day to put up shed. I would recommend the shed to anyone who wants a nice looking, easy to assemble shed.
Makes a cute playhouse. Not a strong shed, very thin walls . The floor cracked the fist time we walked on it.
